Leatherface

Bloody Disgusting has landed a first look at the foreign art for Leatherface, the prequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which filmed earlier this year in Bulgaria.

The poster reflects on the birth of Leatherface, the chainsaw wielding maniac from the franchise that’s one of three actors.

The film centers around a violent teen who one day will become Leatherface. He escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates (Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, James Bloor, Jessica Madsen), kidnaps a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge.

Dorff will play ‘Texas Ranger Hal Hartman’, a lawman described to us as a lean, mean Texas Ranger who has a vendetta against the teen boy who grows up to become Leatherface, while Angela Bettis was cast as Mother Sawyer. The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor also is featured with Finn Jones.

Back on Halloween Bloody broke the news that Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the slasher masterpiece Inside (À l’intérieur), as well as Livide and the forthcoming Among the Living, will be helming Leatherface for Millienum and Lionsgate.

Leatherface is being produced by Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman (interview), alongside Carl Mazzocone after they successfully resurrected the franchise with the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D. Les Weldon is also a producer on the project, which is being executive produced by Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Mark Gill and Beth Bruckner O’Brien.

Lightbulb Leatherface: Year One

I want to post why I'm so excited about this film.

Firstly, Leatherface is the quintessential American psycho, surpassing Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and even Freddy Krueger in mania symbolism. Remember folks, that horror films are primarily meant to shock our sensibilities about behavior deformation, and no one is more spiritually deformed than the purely psychotic Leatherface.

Secondly, Tobe Hooper started a sensation in American horror with "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974), a bizarre and grizzly look at the extremes of murderous behavior set in the eccentric U.S. state of Texas.

Thirdly, "Leatherface" (2016) is a prequel that promises to engage audiences on the psychological origin points of such a legendary maniac, much in the same way that "Batman: Year One" (Frank Miller) and "Batman Begins" (Christopher Nolan) did for comic book novels and movies.

Fourthly, American movies have a way of creating social euphoria. Remember those news reports of people committing copycat crimes modeled after Oliver Stone's controversial crime and violence-glorification film "Natural Born Killers" (1994)?

Fifthly and lastly, Leatherface does for American crime analysis and crime pulp fiction (i.e., vigilantism-fantasia comics) what Karl Marx did for socialism optimism, and this rather well-hyped Texas Chainsaw prequel has people talking about 'mania mutton.'

I mean, you could call this prequel "Leatherface: Year One" (2016).

I'm looking forward to this movie. Then again, I guess you can't see my reply to you seeing how you childishly hit the block button.
