Any Jess Franco experts out there?

Hi!

I've been wanting to get to know Franco's films a bit better for a while now, but i'm not sure where to start. I've seen couple and I am very aware that among his over 190 films there are more than a few bad ones. Still, he seems to have a very loyal fanbase. So, is there anyone who could recommend me something? Sort of "Franco for the beginner"-package..

I'm far from an expert bu I do enjoy a few of his films - my fave is Greta the Mad Butcher (his unofficial Ilsa film).

Some others that I like are:

Bloody Moon
Eugenie... the Story of Her Journey Into Perversion
Justine
Jack the Ripper
Demons

I also liked his WIP films but I can never remember their names (Barbed Wire Dolls etc). I'd also pretty much watch anything with Lina Romay in it too :-)

His newer shot on video stuff looks baaaaaaaaaad..

I'd also recommend Venus in Furs and his collaboration with Jean Rollin, A Virgin Among the Living Dead.

Cool, thanks guys! I just remembered that I have Jack the Ripper on VHS (The finnish video title is "Sohon teurasta" = The butcher of soho). I have to check these titles out. Barbed Wire Dolls is one of those WIP films I've been meaning to see for years.
Didn't know that Franco collaborated with Rollin, but knowing Rollin's style it definitely makes sense...

BTW, Ferox13, isn't Demons Lamberto Bava's film? Or is this another Demons you are talking about?

Different film - this is an Inquisition/possession type film from 1973...

That cover is awesome!

It's hard to pick just one of his movies. He's made so many of them, and most of them are pretty bad. But I thought Countess Perverse was pretty good.

I quite liked The Blood Of Fu Manchu if only for the stereotyping and typecasting.
