Favourite Samurai movie?
Watched 13 Assassins last night and loved it. I'm just looking for your favourite asian sword play extravaganzas. From any era or country.
Exclude Azumi, Baby Cart and Crouching Tiger... Many thanks!:):):) Also, who remembers the series from the '80s, The Water Margin (I think)?

C'mon, no recommendations? I'm downloading Outpost to watch now. I hope you're pleased with yourselves. Actually, I'm looking forward to it. It sounds like The Keep but with an Ulsterman playing the lead.

One particular favorite? Hmm that is tough for me because I have so MANY.
Think I ll give it to Yojimbo, with Seven Samurai a close second. But man, there are tons more - Chushingura Throne of Blood Sanjuro Harakiri The Samurai trilogy The Doom Sword Samurai Assassin Zatoichi Check out most of Toshiro Mifune films. The one which you will have a lot of fun watching is Red Sun, in which Mifune combines with Charles Bronson to pursuit Alain Delon! Add to the mix, the lovely and alluring Ursula Andress! ![]() I haven't seen many modern Samurai films except Zatoichi so can't comment on them. Most of my fave films belong to the 60s-70s period.

Here's a list for essential viewing, for starters -
http://www.flickchart.com/Charts.asp...ilm&perpage=50 The "Samurai 1, 2 & 3" positioned at #15, #18 & #19 in the list above are a part of the Samurai trilogy which I recommended in my above post, which is available as an excellent box set from Criterion. A valuable and must buy IMO, if you are a Samurai film fan. http://www.amazon.com/Samurai-Trilog...7101349&sr=8-2 The Lone Wolf and Cub series are excellent entertainers too. A personal favorite of mine stands at #28 in that list - Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo. Don't be fooled by it's rank, it's one of the most fantastic and visually stunning samurai films ever made, arguably. I could shuffle some films around that list, but overall it is a pretty solid one. Happy viewing, Tony! :)
