De Bello Lemures, or the Roman War Against the Zombies of Armorica

This is my new title, available here in paperback and for the Amazon Kindle.

Amazon description:

"This time, the isolated farmhouse is a Roman villa.

A recovered Latin text tells the story of a struggle between Roman legionaries and the undead in 185 AD. Lucius Artorius Castus leads an expedition to Gaul to defeat a rebellion against the rule of the Emperor Commodus - and gets more than he bargained for when his enemies rise from the dead to fight again. The power of the zombie horde is amplified by the chaos of Ancient Rome's competing religions and superstitions, and the terror the undead bring in their wake foreshadows the incipient medieval darkness already creeping into the world at the end of Rome's Antonine age. Richly annotated, this mashup of survival horror and alternate history takes the reader on a bracing journey into one of ancient Rome's dark corners."

The gigantic stacks of old Penguin Classic and Oxford University Press paperbacks in my library were one of my inspirations for this book. One day I realized how much I really, really loved them, and wanted to frame a genre story inside their "format" as an homage to them. So if you're like me and love to decipher the inside-baseball stuff hidden in footnotes, and also love alternate history, horror and/or zombies, this may be a book for you.

Thanks!

One great thing about the Kindle is that Kindle titles are usually much less expensive than hard cover or paperback titles. For example, right now De Bello Lemures is on sale for the Kindle for $0.99.

But lots of people don't have Kindles. Luckily, today Amazon finally released their free Kindle for the PC application, so that people who haven't bought a Kindle yet can still use the software. There are lots of deeply discounted horror titles for the Kindle, so if you don't want to buy my crappy book it still might be something worth checking out.

Also, a free 38 page sample is now available in .PDF.

If I had the time to read your book, I'd ask to exchange PDFs because it looks awesome. Congrats and I hope you stick around to talk about horror unlike some of the literary transients who come in, drop a link for their book and leave. Kindle and ebooks are great. At first, I thought they were a terrible thing because I figured "who can live on ten percent of 99 cents"? But then when you look at the fact that there's no overhead, they open up a lot of possibilities.

Doc, if you have a .PDF of a work in progress or a completed work I'd love to read it and give you some feedback.

What I did with my .PDF was host it at Google Docs, which is free, and you can then Share and link to the document so you can give people a URL to find it at. You could do that and post the link in this thread, or you could email the .PDF to me at [email protected] if you prefer.

Or, if you have already offered a title for sale on the Kindle, if it's reasonably priced I'll just buy it, and then I can give you an Amazon review with that "Amazon Verified Purchaser" stamp on it. Let me know.

Thanks!

Edited to say:

I found your Amazon author page, and Archelon Ranch sounds really interesting.

I have nothing but good things to say about publishing for the Kindle - please let me know if you end up publishing any of your titles in that format. Do you keep an email list?

There's going to be an ebook of Archelon Ranch, not kindle, though. I'll have to check with the guys over at Legumeman how this can be obtained or if we haven't put it out in ebook form yet. I'd like to Kindle the first Murderland book if possible. I'll talk to my publisher about that one. I'm actually working on a free ebook right now for people on the mailing list for Jimmy Plush, Teddy Bear Detective and then after that, perhaps another non Kindle ebook if I've got the time. I'm in the awkward position of having a 15,000 word novella that people will dig but that there's no way in hell I would want anyone to risk publishing. Also, check your inbox.
