old v new
I was on my catholic chat site not long ago. And one homo got on there saying how great twilight is. And i innocently replied that Iprefer the more tradtional style of vampire. You know, the blood thirsty type that is intent on making a meal out of you. But he went on about how great this new type of "vampire" is much better than the old type. Anyway we got into some debate about which is better. And he said that horror fans really like this new type of "vampire". Now opinion on the site was more or less in favour of the more tradtional type, But to be honest The people there can't really be called "horror" fans. even though most of them do enjoy horror movies. They're not really horror fans like well.... people that you find on here.
Now when i say tradtional i don't just mean count dracula. ya know someone who gets around in a black cape and red sash. I also mean the type you would see in 30 days of night or saloms lot.

yeah, oldschool vampires are the type i prefer. to tell the truth i have never seen a movie with the new kind, no twilight or whatever there is.

Oldskool predominately.
Though I don't mind the ones that have featured in True Blood and Kindred - at least they're a bit of a mixed bag. The twilight thing, I haven't cared to see.

The Twilight vamps might as well not be vamps. They dont really drink blood, they can go out in the sun, crosses don't scare them etc. etc. They are basically just strong and fast.
If you have to go for the romantic yet dangerous vampire theme you should at least read Ann Rice. With that there is back story, plot, content, decent characters and the stories are actually well written with no gramatical and spelling errors like Meyer's books.

Grammatical and spelling errors aren't the worst of it. She wastes words and time like no writer I've seen before. If I were uncreative enough to want to tell the story from Twilight, I could tell it in 90 pages.

Being Devil's advocate: the twilight books are for TWEENS.
-my tween needs me to tell her to brush her damn teeth, something she has done on her own for years now,yet doesn't ever seem to remember...so for Myers to reiterate a certain point or description... right on track for *way too early* hormone-saturated 11 year olds. on the thread subject: the vampires that tear your entire throat out and not giving a damn, that only see humans as food, are the best imo. The romanticized versions-nice for soft core porn.

what about new vicious interpretations of vampires like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT or NEAR DARK (not terribly new, but far from gothic) or FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN?
I want my vamps to be monsters, not pussies and I hate TRUE BLOOD... vampires who whine for equal rights? pathetic. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN presents a vampire as soft and hard at the same time which I really enjoyed
