Doll House

Last night was the premier of Joss Whedon's new show, The Doll House. Who watched it? What were your thoughts? I am dying to know.

I was a little disappointed in it at the beginning, but after about 10 minutes you start to realize what the doll house is and everything comes into perspective. A really neat idea plot wise. Eliza Dushku may not have been the best choice of leading lady as far as I can tell. Her character acting skills aren't great and this is a show where you are playing someone different every show. Also there is an older man who is designated to be Echo's (Dushku) "Keeper". Why not just call him Giles the Watcher?

Anyway, lemme know what you think.

Not sure how I feel about this one yet. I enjoyed the first episode overall, and its a good premise. I agree, I'm also not too so sure about Eliza Dushku in the role. But its definitely interesting enough, I am going to stick with it for awhile.

Well I guess Eliza Dushku being the producer probably helped he get the role. I have only seen the first 3 episodes so far. Need to get caught up. I just can't turn down a Joss Whedon show.

The first episode was a little iffy, but by the second episode I knew I'd watch the rest of the series. The third episode is really what had me hooked (i've been watching these on hulu btw).

One thing I've noticed is that the show is not as funny as Whedon's earlier shows, but he's put a lot more plot and character into this and I feel like he doesn't need the extra comedy to make it interesting or good television.

Sure he doesn't need the comedy to make his shows interesting but most Whedon fans look forward to his quirky dialogue and sense of humour. I've been praying for things to get funnier. I really look forward to the typical Jossverse.

That said, this show is intense. Really good themes, especially rape related things. Actual anonoymous polls have said that most men would commit an act of rape if they could for sure get away with it, and Dollhouse is just that.

Hopefully, more will be done with this premise. I think the most recent episode used up the remote wiping plot point a bit too early. Tonight's looks more promising than the last few, which didn't leave the best taste in my mouth. Joss Whedon can do much better.

I agree. But I keep watching it, so at least it's successful in that sense of word.

The show is definitely flawed. I always thought that Eliza Dushku was limited as an actress (though hot as hell), and this role is definitely slightly beyond her reach. As mentioned, the formula (of "active" and "protector") is painfully reminiscent of Buffy, so Whedon isn't attempting to create new territory.

HOWEVER

The concept is interesting to me and I am fascinated to see where the plot and story is going. I think that the acting is pretty weak (both Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett included; I think he's great in BGS, but he's a bit two-dimensional), but yet I can't stop watching. LOL

I guess this has become my new guilty pleasure. I know that it's not a perfect show, but it appeals to the scifi nut in me and it's just different enough from everything else on television to keep me interested. I honestly want to see where the show it going, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, to tell you the truth. I compare how I feel about this show to how I felt about Dark Angel; fantastic premise, weak acting and writing, but I still watch it every week.

Do I think it could be better? Sure. But I'm still watching it.
