Some of my favourites include Return of the Living Dead 1, 2, and 3, Night of the Creeps, Nightmare City, Day of the Dead, Night Life... and that's about it. Most zombie films besides the known classics suck. Also, for good measure be sure to check out The Video Dead.

I liked all of Romero's "Dead Movies", including the remakes. Just make sure you get the black and white version of the original.

Check out the earlier Return of the Living Dead titles, they are pretty funny. Some other classics would have to be Night of the Creeps, and Cronenberg's Rabid.

Most newer zombie films are fuckin' stupid, Plane Dead stands out as a particularly bad one.

Also get the colorized "Night of the Living Dead," it's really a lot of fun and a good thing to have alongside the original, proper black and white film.

if we are talking modern zombie movies I could realy recommend Diary of the Dead, I think it's brilliant, I love the ammateur camera

maybe not very original due The Blair Witch Project & Cloverfield (although they can't be inspired by the last one mentioned) it brings something new to the zombiegenre and it sucks you into the movie.
