What was that movie I saw?

Hello. I saw a horror movie on TV in the seventies, when I was a child. It was about a group of people trapped in a haunted house. They are killed off in bizarre ways, one by one. At the end of the movie, the surivors discover a hidden door in the cellar floor that grants them access to a foggy room. There they encounter an old man seated in a throne, who is responsible for the horrors of the house. I think he was wearing a white suit. That's all I remember. I would love to know what movie this is. Please help me if you can.

Hmm..the man in the hidden room bit sounds very like The Legend of Hell House.

The Evil had Victor Buono as The Devil, right, in a white suit? That was kind of fun.

And Hell House had Michael Gough as the dead owner of the house, who was nonetheless providing a focusing point for the strange destructive energy flowing through it...forget if he was wearing a white suit, I thought it was gray or black, but I haven't seen it in a while.

Thank you, urgeok2! You know your horror films. THE EVIL is not available at my public library, so I hope it pops up on TV soon. Because I saw it when I was a child, it made an indelible impression on me. It both terrified and fascinated my raw, developing brain. I wish I could get as lost in a film now. Maybe ingesting LSD would do it.

Here's a review with images from the movie:
