indie rock & indie comedy
stand-up comedy is a close 3rd after music and movies for me. recently i've been loving the surplus of good stand-up that we've been getting. i also love the fact that most of these comedians love indie rock and play many of the same venues that my favorite bands play. i'm so excited about this b/c i think stand-up comedy has come around full circle and we're now privy to the quality of stand-up that people were in the 60's/70's: george carlin, richard pryor, lenny bruce, woody allen, etc. stand-up has suffered so much in the 80's and early 90's - minus a few people: eddie murphy, bill hicks, chris rock, in that there was so much of it and the quality level went to shit. in the last 10 years or so comedians like patton oswalt, david cross, eugine murmon, dave chappell, todd barry, sarah silverman, louis ck - just to name a few, have brought the quality and thought back. i think this is fucking awesome!!! am i the only one here who thinks this?!

Don't forget Sam Kinison.
The last comedians I saw were Bill Engvall, Ron 'tater salad' white, Larry the cable guy and some other fella. (Redneck comedians!) |

My favorite stand-up comedian ever would be Mitch Hedberg. Shame he only got to make two albums. The most popular comedian as of recent has been Dane Cook, who I've giggled at a few times (The "B&E" story was pretty funny) but I don't see why he is so popular.

Friend: "Man, I just hard a car!" Dane: "Yeah, the world's filled with them, if you hear a humpback whale then fuckin' tell me." That was worth a chuckle from me. |
