Movie title help...

I was just watching some tv, and that old cartoon "wacky racers" came on, yknow the one starring cartoons from a few various shows, including penelope pitstop, proffesor dastardly and mutley, all in different cars that did crazy kinda stuff? More or less like that "great space race" thing they did, minus the space setting, but I think this one came first.
I can see why I would've liked it as a kid...

Anyways, watching it made me think of a fairly old film I saw quite some time ago.
It was about a big car race competition, that drivers from allover the world entered. The race took place in various settings around the world too. I remember it was a comedy, it was in colour...probably from the mid 60's to 70's I would say...The main character was one of the racers, and I am pretty sure he picked up a chick along the way who rode the rest of the race with him?
It was pretty funny, with over the top characters, and dirty kinda tricks...one more thing I seem to recall is a car, or someone falling in a lake or river in part of it, and I'm sure that one of the settings, or perhaps the finishline, was in Paris?

While I'm talking about OLD stuff...just to throw another one in I've wondered about for a while - I remember a movie, that (I think) had pirate scenes, and some arabian nights type settings too. I remember nothing of the plot. It was a comedy that may have had some musical elements, and all I can tell you is that I remember at one point some dude was after the main character, or one of the main characters, and they went into a ?tent? full of chicks, and dressed in a robe/silky type getup as a woman in order to get away, at which point one of the "bad" guys took a liking to them? Kinda reminded me of some abbot and costello type shit, but I don't think it was them.
Thats really all I can remember....

There ya go, two whacky oldskool films I wouldn't mind seeing again at some point. Any suggestions what they might be?

That's one down - thanks man...
You'd think being abour a big race and all "the great race" might be an obvious title to think of, but hey, hadn't seen it since I was about 14. I think I'll have a look for this one on dvd, if it's as I recall, it was really funny, and IMO pretty much a classic.

Soooo....any takers on the second one?

Oh, and to add to that, I think tha main character was a theif, or at least accused of being a theif or having stolen something at the beggining of the film...and there was some rope swinging and pretty good stunts...I'd say it would've been made within 5 years either way of the racing one...and yeah, it was clearly a whacky kinda adventure/comedy.

Not sure what the second movie you're looking for is.....but if you want a couple of more along the same lines as The Great Race......try these.

I'll check out the first one for sure.
Might've even seen it and just had no idea what I was watching...if I remember it right, there's quite a few films of the same kind that came out around that time, hm? The second one (assuming it's the one about the buried money under...some ?letter shaped trees? towards the end) was ok, but didn't really like it as much as the others...

I'd definately be up for more suggestions though, thanks. Of course if anyone can take a stab at that second movie I described, that'd be awesome.

Actually...I know it was actually an 80's film...but, I've seen the cover of the dvd a few times, and thought this one may be what I'm talking about, that unnamed second film....
On the basis of the description I gave, can anyone tell me if that sounds at all like the film called "the pirate movie"? Just going by the cover I've seen it looks a little along the same lines. Just a shot in the dark there, but...what do you think?

Dunno about the pirate movie, but I'd like to reiterate that Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is a really funny movie with some coool old-fashioned airplanes in it.

Send a message via Yahoo to Miss Olivia
I have the Pirate Movie, and there's no scene where anybody dresses up like a chick.
It's funny in a stupid way, though.
