Poltergist

I watched Poltergist last night on Turner Classic Movies, you all know by now I love that channel! Hadn't seen it in years, maybe since the year it came out.

What do you all think is this a classic???? I have to say, I was watching it thinking, this is a really stupid movie. Definitely on my never watch again list.

Doesn't fit the "classic" definition, but I do like this movie quite a bit.

Really?? I don't know it just seemed silly to me, and really fake effects. When ever I see that little girl though she is so cute and to think that she dead. Kinda weird.

The movie scared the shit out of me as a teen and I still get that warm fuzzty when watching it. Yes the effects are a bit dated, but the corpses coming out of the ground, the clown, the tree...all really good stuff.

It's over twenty years old, it's directed by Tobe Hooper. I would say it's a classic. I saw that movie for the first time when I was four years old and I ended up becoming very frightened of the two hundred year old apple tree outside my window. It paved the way for the big budget popcorn horror movies of the next generation, which is a blessing and a curse, but still the impact of it's undeniable.

Well, it was made after 1970, so by the message board's definition it's modern horror (although no one really pays much attention to the category descriptions).

As far as it being a quality film that still works, yes, I think it's a classic of its type. I watched it a few years ago and it still scared the crap out of me.

The very first time I saw it I was just amazed at how frightening and intense it was. It's not so much a story picture as a picture whose story sets up a relentless series of shocks and scares. Similar to "American Werewolf" in that respect, I think. It's really about the scares.

I still love Poltergeist as well. As far as classic, well, it's getting close to time to update our definition. I think the 70's are definately a classic generation unto themselves, and the generation a lot of people point to as being the most influential in modern horror history. Which makes me cry, because I was born in the 70's, which means I'm also a classic. Damn kids.

It's definatley a classic. Some of the effects are daated, like the face peeling.. that is just bad, but most of them hold up. i love the white skeleton thing that cuts the mom off from going into the kids room. Freakin awesome movie monster.
