The Best DVDs: Must-Haves
I was looking for a list, or rather opinions, on what you guys would consider "must-have DVDs". Not soley because the film itself is good (though that plays a part), but because the packaging, extras, and whatnot are equally amazing.
I ask this because a lot of editions of the same movie are coming out left, right and center lately. What's "ultimate" may be worse then the "collector's" which might even be heavily cut when comapred to the "extended" version. It's getting kind of ridiculous. What are some DVD sets that really impressed you? Film or Television. |

Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece collection, Sin City collectors pack, Planet of the Apes collectors set with ape bust, classic horror monster set with three horror busts, office space (best buy exclusive with stapler, coffee cup, etc), the disney tins like Disney on the Front Lines, and... there are so many more... check this site out for differences but they mostly tell you the best version of the film with the most extras not packaging.

The Alien Quadrilogy is pretty awesome. I have the three disc ultra version of Hellboy. If you're a fan of the film, it's a must have. Tons of commentaries, documentaries & a mini version of Rasputins diary.

almost any carpenter film with a commentary. his commentaries are as entertaining as the films themselves (and usually very informative)
Same goes for Kevin Smith films Also Robert Rodriguez films ... great 'film school' extras and a cooking lesson.. (Once upon a time in mexico) Kill Bill 2 has footage of rodriguez playing music for the premier of the film .. great extra. sam raimi and bruce campbell commentaries are also mint .. most other extras i couldnt give a shit about - most of them - even the 'making of' bits are just footage of the film you recently watched repeated over and over again. |

The T2 Ultimate edition (i think thats what it was. the one that came in the alluminum case when it first came out) the bonuses are like going to film school, there are like 6 hours of them.
Same for the Abyss. Lots of information on how the movies were made. Jim Cameron is a psycho. no wonder his marriages fail, he is married to movies. Except they have been seperated for almost 10 years now....
