Game Reviews

Since we are all gaming fanatics and usually are playing games regularly, I thought it would be wise to have a thread to review the games which you are playing/have been playing/have completed playing. That way others will have an idea of what the game is like, and if they can get it for themselves, product availability in certain areas/online and so on.

We do have "What game are you playing right now?" thread, in which we usually just post which game we are playing/ have been playing. But a game termed as good or bad, comes from its review. For instance, I thought Max Payne wasnt that good a game when it came out for the first time. But once I played it, I replayed it again till the end 4-5 times till I felt fully satisfied. What does it take for a game to satisfy hardcore gaming freaks like us? You decide.

It can be a general review or a critical review. It can be a PC, XBox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64 - any platform based. Just be sure to mention the game, the platform and the genre.

Evil Dead: Regeneration [PS2]

I'm a huge fan of the Evil Dead movies, but I'd never got around to playing the games, mostly due to the fact that I used to be more of a Gamecube kind of guy. So when I finally did get a PS2, this was the first game I bought, and I loved it. Nobody is cooler than Bruce Campbell as Ash, throwing one liners and bad jokes like they were confetti. His newly added sidekick is somewhat amusing, but gets annoying fast. The gameplay is very repetitive, but still pretty fun. The bosses aren't very hard, but they look awesome and have some cool attacks. The ending left me disappointed, but to avoid spoilers I wont go into why. Overall it's a pretty fun game. It has it's flaws, but fun and not too challenging.

Ristar [Sega Genesis]

"In a far away galaxy...An evil alien force is at work. The evil tyrant Greedy has captured the planet leaders and enslaved the population. Even the legendary hero has been captured. A desperate plea for help is made, and answered by the hero's own son...."

Is that not a great way to start a game? I had that memorized as a kid, I played this game like crazy. Earlier today I came across the ol' Genesis in a closet, and played Ristar for the first time in years. Let me tell you, it still holds up. Sure, the characters might be a bit childish. The gameplay makes it very easy to play, but that doesn't make this an easy game. Once you get past the third level or so, you realize just how deceiving a cute little mascot can be! I cant boast that I've ever beat this game so I cant comment on if it stays fresh the whole way through, but for as far as I've gotten there are lots of little tweaks in the gameplay that keep you interested and on your toes. The graphics are very good, for the time or otherwise. The boss battles are great fun, not overly challenging but still a lot of fun.

I played this game religiously as a kid, but adults can enjoy it equally. If you happen to run across this game in a used game shop or a box in your attic, I highly recommend checking it out!

Robocop vs The Terminator [Sega Genesis]

I love this game. I recently dug the ol' Sega Genesis out of the attic, and this was one of the first games I played once I got it hooked up. Was one of my favourites as a kid, played it for hours on end, getting nowhere but still having a blast. The weapons are cool, the story is great, the blood looks awesome...I cant think of a single bad thing to say about this game. Robocop is perfect compared to the movies: he movies the same, looks the same, even holds his gun the same way. I do wish we would have seen a bit more Terminator, but the later levels give us quite a lot so I cant complain. This games really does have it all, it even punishes you for cheating! If you cheat, the final boss is quite literally impossible to defeat. It's worth it though, because damn is it fun to plow through enemies in God mode. Overall, this is just an all-out fun action game, I love it.

The Punisher [PC]

This is a game which I have been eagerly waiting for a long time. When I got my hands on this last year, I didnt have a high end AGP card to play it. First of all, I upgraded my PC to a new NVidia GeForce just to play this game (yes I was crazy that way). And I must say I was glad and overjoyed I did it, cuz this game simply rocks!

The game is a FPS RPG, or first person shooter role playing game. Anyone who is familiar with Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Marvel comics) will know what kind of a story this one would have. There's a sweet amount of gore too, in the way the Punisher kills his victims, which hardcore fans will simply love and adore. I d recommend this one highly, to anyone who hasnt played it yet.
