completely ..
the only fun i had in the movie was the manic grin of the guy who bought it in the washroom, the 1st person stuff at the end .. and just seeing the guy from Lord of the Rings in a roll like this (wasnt he also in chronicles of riddick .. very similar type of 'haunted' performance ?

I wouldn't buy it but it was ok for one quick watch, although I would've liked to skip most of it up until the end.

yeh...Karl Urban...Eomer from LOTR...forgot what he was in Riddick...

the only good thing out of Doom was "some" action and monster sequences and the BFG...even the first-person sequences like in the game sucked...really sucked...and the music sucked donkey balls...

The basic thing about the Doom games has been survival...you are alone with monsters around, you have the guns, now survive...but the movie sucked because never ever did I get the feel that there was only one character, and he had to survive all alone...at least if they followed that plotline and let Sarge(Rock) be alone and fight it out, maybe that would have made for more interesting viewing...

(remember the end sequence of Predator?)

Pure action from beginning to end. I enjoyed this for the same reason I enjoy most video game movies: You can sit back, relax, turn your brain off for a couple hours and watch things explode. This isnt always a good thing of course, but from time to time I love this kind of movie. After Ive had a bad I day I'd much rather watch something mindless like this that a movie like The Godfather or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Both films are, needless to say, infinatly better than Doom, but they just arent as fun. Both kinds of film have their place, as far as Im concerned.

AMEN,BROTHAH!!!
Who needs to use their brain all the time? If that was the case, Disneyworld would suck instead of being one of the all time fun places on the planet.....

i can watch brainless movies - to a point ...
it still has to engage me in some way.

everyone draws a line in the sand somewhere .. you set your own level of acceptable competancy in a film.

this is actually a discussion that is starting to bug me in here.
a lot of people have said 'i just turn my brain off' ...

if that was true you could watch any pathetic piece of shit and enjoy it but the very same people will hate another movie because it was stupid.

lets just say 'sure it's dumb but there was something i liked about it' and stand up for that instead of making excuses that potentially wont be appropriate for every dumb movie you see.

there are movies i've liked that are mindless action and violence ... they still have to have something good about them. the violence has to be well done .. or so bad its fun to watch.... same rule applies to the quality of the acting.

but if it's poorly made, uninteresting action, bad writing ... no amount of 'turning my brain off' will allow me to watch some films.

Allow me to re-word myself in that case. There is a difference, for me at least, between a good movie and entertainment. A movie can fit into both categories of course, but many films are only one or the other. Doom is pure entertainment. The plot was decent enough, the effects were great, and it kept me 100% entertained almost from beginning to end. Not all movies need to be thought provoking, or need to have Oscar calibur actors. If it can keep me entertained, that's enough for me sometimes. That's not always the case of course, but if Im in the right mood I love this kind of movie.

As I said, movies like this have just as much of a place in my collection as movies like Cuckoo's Nest. One of the best movies ever made, easily, but on a rainy afternoon with nothing to do, Id be much more likely to grab Doom off the shelf. Nothing to think about, escapisim to the max.

As Ive proved dozens of times around here, Im not great at putting my opinions into words. Hopefully this made sence:)
