Trying to find a movie from the 70's

I am trying to find the name of a horror movie I saw as a child (and that scared the crap out of me at the time). It was about these little creatures that lived under a house. I think they came out of the fireplace or basement at night. The thing I remember most is that they were afraid of light. In one of the final scenes, they are dragging the female star away, but she manages to grab a camera. She keeps snapping the shutter button so that the flash goes off, and she gets away from the little nasties. I keep wanting to say the title of the movie was something like "Don't Look In The Basement", but I know that was a completely different unrelated movie. I am placing the move around the mid 1970's. Thanks in advance for the help!

Gremlins! Actually that does sound familiar, and the name of something is on the tip of my mind. That "Dont look in the basement" sounds similar.

70's Movie

I do remember the movie--I think it may have been a made-for-tv-Movie.
The handy man was doing some minor remodeling, the lady wanted a door unsealed, the remodeler said to leave it alone, she wanted it opened anyway,--and the fun began.
If this is the movie, post again, and I will try to remember the name.
Was it "Don't Go Near the Dark?"

'Don't Look in the Basement' is a completly different movie. It's more or less a drama/horror film where a Dr. is killed by one of his patients at his home for the insane***SPOILERS AHEAD****

................One of the patients takes the place of the Dr. after he is killed, as she is herself schizo..........

Sounds like 'Gremlins' to me too.........

I found it!

Juanhacko- you got me on the right trail with the "Don't Go Near The Dark" clue! I did some more searches and found it...a 1973 made for TV movie named "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark". Now I just have to track down a copy on ebay or half.com! Here is one review I found for the movie:

" I remember seeing "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" on TV when I was a kid. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was originally made for TV back in 1973. There are movies that stick with you for the rest of your life- this movie stuck with me!! It's the creepiest movie that I have ever seen. I saw it a few years ago on late night TV and it scared me just as much as it did when I was a kid!! Don't Be Afraid of the Dark starts with a young couple inheriting an old Victorian style house. They don't know that the house is inhabited by three small demons that are locked in a blocked off fireplace. The caretaker, played by William Demarest(Uncle Charlie from "My Three Sons") warns Sally, played by Kim Darby, that some things are better left alone when she wants the old fireplace opened up. Sally attempts to open the fireplace thus releasing the three small demons into the house. They then want her for their own. Strange things begin to happen around the house and Sally at first begins to question her own sanity. She sees the demons and her husband Alex, played by Jim Hutton, does not believe her. I think the scariest part of this movie is how vulnerable Sally feels. She cannot feel safe even at a dinner party (she sees one of the demons on her lap under a napkin) The demons cannot stand light and only attack in the dark. I can still hear the whispering whenever I think of this movie. Sally.....Sally......Sally.....Sally..... Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is the creepiest movie ever made. What amazes me the most is that it was made for TV!
See it for yourself....with the lights on!! "

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Lygophobic--Thanks for updating me on information about the TV Movie.
To me it also is one of my favorites--it is genuinely spooky.
If you ever find a source for the movie, please post again and let me know.
The late Jim Hutton, Timothy Hutton's father, was ina lot of beach movies in the sixties, and was also Ellery Queen in the TV series-- Actually, all the actors in the movie were pretty good--Movies-for-Television were in the early stages then--designed to run in 1 1/2 hours with commercials, which is why they are not re-run much today.
Thanks for your help.

I found it on ebay

Juan- if found it on ebay. I think this link will work:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3371173983

If it won't work, do a search on ebay for the title under the DVD's/Movies section. I also found it at half.com, but more expensive. I bought one of the ones from ebay, and I'll let you know how it is when I get it. I felt 25 bucks was not bad to own a peice of my childhood (that made me scared of the dark for years)!
