I've never run into this problem, but a little research came up with something. Question the first: did you recently install or reinstall Windows on your machine? And if so, was it Windows 2000? If this is the case, I may be able to help.
What you need to do first of all, is do a Google search for "NTLDR download 2000". Once you've done that, save the file to a floppy and load into DOS. From there, transfer that file to C (assuming C is your hard disk.) If that doesn't work for you, let me know and we'll go from there. Good luck.

I tried to do a system recovry, but my partition file is corrupt. WTF causes this shit? Compaq said i have to buy a disk to reformat it. I have Windows Xp, the only hardware i have installed is my digital cam, it's so aggrevating.

ugh. Compaqs are always a pain since they try to keep everything you'd ever need to fix their comps custom made by them.
Did you mean your NTFS file at start up ? One more reason I loathe XP. CK |

Best bet is to try starting in Safe Mode and do a rollback from there.

NTFS is something you don't want to have screwed up. You could try to do a repair from the XP disk like the last poster suggested, but I doubt that will work. You could try to fix the partitions with Partition Magic or something, but unless you're REALLY good with computers I wouldn't suggest that... you could easily screw things up beyond repair. A new 80GB OEM hard drive is not that expensive, so I'd suggest just replacing it. If you have stuff on your old drive that you need to save, ask the Compaq folks what your recovery options are. If they won't do it, I'm sure you can google up a company online that will do it for you. Depends on how important the data is. You could replace the drive yourself, but again I wouldn't attempt this unless you know your stuff.
XP is very emotional software...doesn't play well with others and doesn't take kindly to being removed. |
