ACTORS QUALITY:3 out of 5: Caleb and daddy messed it up for a 5 VIOLENCE:3 out of 5: Took to long to get to GORE:1 out of 5 SPECIAL EFFECTS:4 out of 5: Flaming clothes and burnt skin LOVE:0 out of 5: Sorry FINAL THOUGHTS: They say Near Dark is one of the best horror movies of all time....I have to disagree...It was boring for a long time, then picked up..I believe to be one of the best, it has to keep you glued to the tv the whole time, this didnt do it for me....This was more of a romance to me...If I didnt do reviews I probably wouldnt have watched it all the way through..It cant even compete with Lost Boys...Pass on this movie, unless your a diehard vampire fan...But plan on being bored.. OVERALL SCORE:3 out of 5: Being generous

Eric Red is a amazing screenwriter who puts together amazingly dark characterisations. Its a character driven film that doesn't rely on tacky splatter or cheap comic book thrills which is rare for a film of this period. Near Dark was a interesting original spin on the vampire flick and hasn't really been equalled in my opinon. I liked how it didn't use the worn out gothic Stoker conventions that these films are riddled with. In my mind if vampires actually were to exist Near Dark is what the reality of being a creature of the night would be like.

While it's far from being a favorite of mine (in fact, it's not even one of my favorite vampire films) I have to give props to Near Dark. Along with Martin (a much better film, by the way) it was one of the first films to deal realistically with vampirism. As Elvis said, it does away with the tired conventions entirely, which was a wonderful idea at the time. Unfortunately, in my mind there are some elements that drag it down, chief among them being the ridiculous blood transfusion scenes.

Its a great film and you got a few characters who also appeared in the movie Aliens as well.
