Argento films for first time viewer...
I know that this has probably been talked to death...but I'm interested in purchasing a couple of his films to check out...I was thinking of Suspiria and Tenebre. Good choices or do you have other suggestions?
I barely know anything about either one...but I've heard that Suspiria is visually stunning. Any advice would be appreciated. :) |

Tenebre is my favorite, which I think I have mentioned several times. Suspiria has a great start and one of the best death scenes ever put on film. The look of the movie is beautiful, with really vibrant colors, but unfortunately the storyline gets a little weak toward the end. Those are still the two I would recommend though.
But Deep Red is another that I would consider, because I think that in many ways it is a superior film to Suspiria. |

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll pick up all 3 if I'm feeling daring;) I hope a few more people reply, and that I don't get flamed too much for talking about Argento films again ;) :D |

Go for Creeepers its easier to follow than most of his other films. Terror At The Opera is a good one too.

There's some pretty sadistic shit in Opera.

I'd stick with 'Suspiria' myself. Everything good or bad about Argento is summed up in that film to the umpteenth power.
'Deep Red' is actually in public domain and you might luck out and find it in the DVD bargain bin released by some company you've never heard of. Mine showed up that way in a '10 movies on 5 DVDs' horror collection. CK |
