Higher Thoughts, Entry #2 - Remakes, the ma just so happen to serve a perpse.
Now I know what the general public outcry is when a film is being updated and remade is genrally negative. But The prespective of them actually benifiting in such a way as keeping the film alive are rarely seen. Because face it, future generations arent gonna give a shit about these old black and white film unless there is something that leads them to it. Now because of plagerizom and causing lawsuits people get the rights to remake old stories. And when they do it they update the film and change things, and although this may seem rude to the original work but it helps keep it alive and reminds us of them. Cause if a kid wouldnlt have seen that a movie like, say... "dawn of the dead" was coming out but it was a remake, it is going to cause him or her to go and seek out the original just based on the announcment of its remake. And look what this caused. It caused Anchor Bay to get a go aheadto have onee of my favorite movies of all time to get a 4 disc boxset. causing more people to learn of it and their originals, this makes them want to seemore similar things. This success of the recent zombie revival causes universalto give georrge romero (who hasnt made a zombie movie in 20 year) the greenlight and funding he needs to to make the movie he has planed for 9 years to go into production. Now tell me this? Is the fact that in 10 days we will all be seeing George A. Romeros "land of the Dad" noot an amazingly great thing.
I rest my case

My opinion on remakes in general....I welcome them...It isn't like remakes are ever going to REPLACE the originals...So, we have 2 movies instead of one...More movies is a good thing, at least for me...

I don't really have a problem with them as long as they don't make a total balls up of them (like Get Carter for example). I really enjoyed Dawn Of The Dead, TCM and The Toolbox Murders remakes so my mind is a bit more open these days (except for The Warriors remake I've been hearing about  )
