This might come as quite a shock for you V, but i say no to movies such as Oldboy.

If Oldboy and Co. gets accepted, I'd like to add Tony Jaa's "The Protector" as it shows the horrors of elephant killings in asia.. and it's damn good.

I'm with you on all but Eye and Tale. I have both Eye movies and find them very effective and as far as Tale of Two Sisters, I sat down and watched that flick followed by Audition with a buddy and both of us liked Tale better.

So...what will it be?
then it also easily deserve a place in the list along with the other two vengeance films and obviously Memories of Murder.

Horror novelists and scholars prefer an inclusive definition of the genre. If that's the way Stephen King, Clive Barker, Kim Newman and others like them think of the genre, I think it's a smart way for fans to approach it. If we only went with movies that were undeniably horror with no crossgenre content, no uniqueness of setting and nothing debatable in tone, we'd end up with...umm....well, there's...

And how can we argue about Ichi? That movie is gory and gross as hell. Of course THAT's a horror movie.
STOP IT, ALL OF YOU! You're tearing this family apart!

Seriously, I didn't know people cared so much about Asian Horror.

As for Godzilla, I thought the first film was worth a watch and the rest were good for laughs at how bad they were. Especially with the inclusion of Monsterland and Minilla.

YOUR "slippery slope" argument stinks.

Oldboy and Lady Vengeance have classic gothic horror themes that make the movie more than just another Asian action flick. Note that I haven't included "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" here. The line that I am drawing is that Oldboy and Lady Vengeance both include intense horror themes that challenge the audience's perception. "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" is more of a pulp action drama.

They're not just action - There's more going on that follows classic horror themes.

I don't see the horror. Sorry.

I like this discussion. Just started a thread here about it so as not to clog up this thread anymore.

Now back to the Top Asian Compilation!!

I agree re: The Eye. Its the only movie in the last 10 years to actually send a shiver down my spine. I know a lot has to do with the audio [ and I usually have surround sound crank up pretty good ] but that damn calligraphy scene gets me every time.

same here exactly - the Eye is an excellent ghost story.

i know for a fact that i'm not going to be able to come up with a list with anything on it not already mentioned here (let alone Zwoti's list)
