Its just my opinion but I think the majority of people in the world think emotionally and not logically.

Maybe the next time I hear a black comic make jokes about white people I'll jump on the bandwagon and scream racism too.
The next time somebody makes a joke about the Irish being drunks I'll wait until I sober up and sue their asses.

Seriously though, we could say something like that if we wanted to but if one of us were to say it at work our employers should be able to take any action they feel is appropriate. Imus could draw advertisers so his employers couldn't make money... no money no Imus. He's done a lot of good for charity, he's still well liked by a lot of people I think, and I'm sure he'll land on his feet.

no I am soz for being so over dramatic..
(feeling a bit sad for having to go away for 2 weeks and leaving my baby)

but i totally agree in most part..where does one draw the line in these cases.
This man who was fired has every right to freedom as speech as any other..being coloured or not...his comments were taken well out ot context
Every country has thier history as does every culture and prejudices ..its a bit like the untold blonde jokes out there.
So why is it that the colours think that they are the only one hard done by?
Take the jew for an example and thier plight.
We could sit here and hash out the right and wrong ways to approach differences when it comes to races and religions and other certain topics that are deemed taboo'.
The stupidest part about my lineage is this..
in my family..there are only 6 of us that are brown skinned (part maori/part chilean).it was the white assed ones who copped most of the racial slurs
from full blooded maori.
Personally..i find these amusing and nor do i find anything offensive..but disrespect the snickers choccie bar.. and we may have a problem !!!!:D

People obviously don't like racism broadcast to millions.

Imus did have a right to say it, but he should have been fired for it.

Politicians and campaigners will always seize the opportunity to jump on bandwagons and gain support, but this does not change the facts of the matter.
I agree with all of this.

I dont know if I can put my thoughts to the right words, but yes, racism is a big menace, not only in America, but the world over. We have people here hanging each other publicly as to the religion they belong to, and the colour of their race. If he is darker and is of the minorities, he doesnt get much respect in the social community. Sure he gets a job because of the quota, but no societal recognition. Even a poor person belonging to a high religion is respected. But that isnt all. The government is constantly improving the conditions for these minorities hence the higher caste people tend to get edged out, when it comes to selection of jobs, availability of daily wages, quotas etc. which is driving the resentments between the races only wider.

Here people are also divided as to the region to which they belong. Its like having 30 countries in India. Each state is a country in itself, and an outsider from another state, faces a lot of difficulty while adapting or adjusting himself to the new place.

National television over here has comedians and humorous people poking at the regional differences and colour/religious differences both. For example, a Sardar from Punjab is said to have very less grey cells and small IQs by the rest of the country, so they are always the biggest butt-ends of jokes. The South Indians get ridiculed for their pronounciation of the national language, and the East Indians for their gross ignorance about matters as a whole.

Wow, just re-reading all that which I typed shows that the situation is actually worse here. :(

The bottom line in all this is, famous people and people whose words are heard by millions have an obligation reflected in their pay packets to keep to acceptable standards - it makes sense that those standards include not using the characteristics of black women's hair to connect with prostitution. Even if this was intended for adult audiences only, there is no escaping the blatant use of directed racism in his insult.

Only the ideallists would wave the whole thing away as an overreaction, because 'it's what he does'... but if this kind of thing is allowed to flourish and go unpunished, what kind of message does it send?
being from the uk i can add something here. ron atkinson had been previously the manager of wimbledon f.c. whilst there he signed many more black players than any other club would ever have dreamed of. at the time a lot of the champions of big rons cause were black players who new from many years of character association that he was non racist but occasionally stupid. so, just thought i'd chip in and demonstrate how whitey isn't always pure evil.

Maybe his more relaxed Wimbledon brothers did forgive him (at least publicly), but Big Racist Ron nontheless joins Fuhrman and Richards in the Nigger Guy camp and long may they and their paypackets be reminded of it. Without going to extremes, there is a simple and glaringly obvious line which white broadcasters need to respect and not cross - joking about black stereotyping might approach it, using condecending words such as 'nigger' goes all the way.

Whites have many times been the oppressors in this world, therefore it is natural to cut other races a little slack if they now want to have a dig at 'The Man'. Consider the emotion involved in years of murder and slavery.

Many whites have also fought to help free minorities of oppression and many people of all races have sold their own for profit. I'm sorry but "the man" can be any color.
