Fired....right or wrong?

Don Imus' racist remarks got him fired by CBS on Thursday, the finale to a stunning fall for one of the nation's most prominent broadcasters.

Imus was initially suspended for two weeks after he called the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air last week. But outrage kept growing and advertisers kept bolting from his CBS radio show and its MSNBC simulcast, which was canceled Wednesday.

I don't consider myself a bigot in any sense of the word, and I rarely listened to Imus's show.....but I think this was a bit extreme. His show is basically a comedy show and the remark was said offhandedly during a "bit" with one of his co-host. The remark by itself ,IMO is very offensive and hurtful but looking at the "big picture"....why is this so much worse than song lyrics such as.......

Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks
Lick on deez nutz and suck the dick
Get's the fuck out after you're done
And I hops in my ride to make a quick run... ....by Dr. Dre.

But Al Sharpton comes along and demands Imus be fired and WHAM.......after over thirty years on the radio he's gone......Like Al Sharpton is some kind of moral compass for the youth of today.

Ok..from a brown persons point of veiw..
I am sick to death of coloured ppl finding offense to every damn thing a white
man says.
Why is it alright for them to incite racial slurs to other cultures but its not ok when the shoes on the other foot.
In my country ..maori call islanders (samoans..tongans..cook islanders..etc) FOBS (fresh of the boats) or coconuts..coons..bunga's
the list is continuous for other races..but fuckit!!
as soon as you call a maori a dole bludger..or a white man says something as simple as 'typical maori' (referring to the amount of crimes this race commits)
'BOOM' racist remark..!!! an apology is demanded yadda yadda yadda..!!

No ..this man should not have been fired..reprimanded yes..but not outrightly sacked.
Its about time coloured ppl looked at themselves in the mirror and ask ...who has the worst case of racial discrimitory slurs ever.?
And stop hiding behind lyrics in a song.
Fuck them...if this is your colour and your proud..no word or remark should
be able to penetrate your thick ass skin.

this pisses me off to no limit.

Al Sharpton is a RACIST and he still has a radio show!

I used to watch comedy shows like chappelle..chris rock..eddie murphy over here.
a good example as to what i am referring too.

I found them as funny as having a tooth pulled . 'rolls her eyes'

this is honestly the dumbest thing ever. how many times have we heard black comedians refer to us as crackers and such. no one gives a fuck. its pure and simple hipocracy.

this is stupid.

Kane_Hodder 04-12-2007 08:51 PM

Racism in any form is insulting and should be clipped off. But the respect from either colored race should be mutual. If the whites give the due space to their black counterparts, they should get some back from them too. It doesnt work one way. Every time a black stands up and says his rights have been violated, people stand up for him. What happens when the case is reversed and its a white on the aggrieved side? The door must swing both ways.

if you're going to make racist remarks towards black people, do it in a book where they won't see them.

If Don Imus was legitimately fired...Then Dave Chappell, Chris Rock, Carlos Mencia, and all of the others who do the SAME thing should be fired, too

It's a bullshit double standard

lol. the ironic thing is that if you were on the radio now and referred ethnic minorities as 'coloured' you'd get into shit. but, your point is well made. there is a double standard and i think a lot of times people mistake a racial problem for socio-economic problem. i think there is still a lot of mileage left in the white guilt thing.

Well, FUCK, I knew there was a void to fill in the "We don't have enough to worry about" section!

All this BS only makes an issue where they shouldn't be.
-Like we need to create a fucking problem 'cause there JUST ISN'T enough shit these days to deal with.
To the fucktards on TV:
Be a cool HUMAN and you'll be jus' fine.
