like you say not all remakes are a bad thing, i think some movies are good to be remade depending on the movie. this one i cant see the point. dont be afraid of the dark is a good one to remake, and it, i think they need a makeover.

The remakes of the 80s were mostly forgotten b-movies-The Fly, The Blob, Invaders from Mars, The Thing-and had a purpose to them. The remakes coming out now are for the sole purpose of making money. Creative filmmakers aren't getting a look in anymore-its killing horror cinema. Thank the gods for stuff like Insidious and Troll Hunter but they are getting fewer and fewer.

Forgotten by WHOM? The Fly, The Blob & The Thing are three of the most popular classic films, and are shown frequently on cable and are all available on multiple DVD releases.

I'd say 90% of people I speak (away from the horror/sci fi communities) to don't realise that they are remakes of old films.

I should point out that obviously I don't prefer the 80s remakes to the originals (the original Fly in particular is supremely freaky)-but they were at least watchable unlike more recent money oriented attempts.
