I made a thread HERE about Ringu and Ringu 2, and why people prefer them over the American remake. Strange, but the people that said that they enjoyed the Japanese films more didn't (or couldn't) really put up a good argument as to why.

I, myself, did enjoy Ju-On very much, but I thought the American version was scarier in many ways. The shower scene and the video scene in The Grudge was much more effective than its Japanese counterpart. However, I did enjoy the structure of Ju-On more.

Let's face it. The Ring and The Grudge are good horror films, and should not be dismissed just based on the fact that they are "remakes".

I am going to give Dark Water a chance. From the looks of it, urgeok will, too. The rest of you can watch Jason pick his nose. :p

i have to add though - that after enjoying the japanese origionals i started buying all of the asian horror films i could find and they are all getting to be extremely samey.
The jerky ghost girl, the wet hair .. the scare tactics ..etc

The american touch actually gives it the slightly different approach thats keeping it a bit fresh for me..

I hope Dark Water is a decent adaptation. The Eye will no doubt be next.

Likewise here, and I couldn't agree more.

I will. Especially because of Jennifer Connely. I have yet to see her in a bad movie.

Sorry to get off topic...but just as a sidenote i thought Gothika was perhaps the dumbest "horror" movie I've ever seen. Really bad.

You know..the previews just don't look that interesting to me. I still may see it, but right now it's at the bottom of the list.
