Truly an underrated gem with a pretty dark subject matter.
I saw this as a kid, and then again a few years ago (now that I'm 13) . It really was able to create a creepy mood and world. The echoey creature sounds were particularly well done. And it's certainly extremely unusual to see evil win at the end.

TBL, I said this once before and I'll say it again...you must be psychic! I, too, have also been married for 30 years-next Valentine's Day. Just the one daughter though.
Scott (Bro) and I do a good relationship, but I live in New England and he's in Kansas City MO, with a new family. Thank goodness for phone/email.

This started out a bit predictable but I had a few genuine scares as it progressed. Its cheesy at times but actually pretty good.
This was another thrown in the birthday box VHS my brother sent me some years back. Not bad, even if Linda does look a little old to be playing a teen, although not as old as she did in SAVAGE STREETS (1984)!

BLACULA (1972). A film that is a lot better than it sounds. Good perf by William Marshall and a few genuinely scary moments, especially the slo-mo hall run! ***

Trilogy of Terror (1975)

Not great, not terrible. I was expecting more, given its cult status, but I guess the only reason you watch it is for the Zuni fetish doll, which was also a little underwhelming since the primary effect was a puppet shaking uncontrollably against a black screen. Still, he looked cool and is definitely a unique monster. The other two segments felt like below average episodes of The Twilight Zone, although it was nice to see Karen Black in three different roles (four, really).

6/10

Trilogy of Terror...

Well, you know, funny thing about that is it was made for TV, and aired March 4 (many Northerners still stuck inside for Winter) in 1975, where sexual mores where changing and some of the mainstream experimented with wife swapping and stuff like that (which explains the one part), and then pop psychology was taking off with the split personality part, (Sybil would explode the next year).

But of course, the Zuni doll would strike a nerve, especially on women watching on TV at the time, freaked them out, and caused nightmares for days, and became legend. It's a 'cult status' of sorts. To the seasoned male horror fan, circa 2014, it's not likely to hit ya much. I thought the Zuni sequence was shot brilliantly. Talk about working with what you have. It had me on the edge of my seat.

PULSE 1988

A young boy (Joey Lawrence) comes to stay at his dad and step-mom's new house. The house across the street has been recently ransacked and gutted by the previous owner who neighbors claim went mad. The owner died in the process.

The little boy starts noticing strange happenings in his dad's new house. Surprisingly, its his step-mum (a real sweetie) who believes him and takes his side.

Enjoyed it as it reminded me why I like the 80's so much.

Same here, the first time I saw it at 14. The first two stories are alright, but the last one is still pretty balls to the walls.
Always liked Dan Curtis's material...

PUMPKINHEAD (1988). Pretty decent little flick with Lance Henriksen turning in a real good perf as the grieving father. Sorta surprised not a million sequels followed this . ***1/2

AMITYVILLE 3 THE DEMON 1983

Starring Tony Roberts and Tess Harper

Out of the Amityville sequels I've watched so far, this is the best. It has that grainy VHS look to it, which I love and a solid story til about the last 10 mins or so. Meg Ryan and Candy Clark also star.

AMITYVILLE 2. THE POSSESSION 1982. Spoilers ahead

This movie is more of a prequel, presumably about the Ron Defeo family and the lead up to the murders.

Not bad, some pretty squeamish moments for me when the younger children were hunted down.

The ending was a bit sloppy and unresolved.

I think this the 5th Amityville sequel I've watched in the last week.
