Session 9? A "found footage" movie?

I don't think so.

Yeah...if Dara is talking about this Session 9, then there is no way to consider it as a found footage film (unless there's a found footage version of it available/shown somewhere!); but a great psychological-horror, no doubt. Loved it too.

First off i have to say that this is the best use of the found footage concept i've ever seen. The camera work, editing, acting and dialogue are all very amateurish which actually makes it feel like you're watching found footage instead of just a movie made in that style.

That being said, the stories could've been better. Obviously having five short movies plus the arc surrounding the whole thing doesn't give you much time but all the stories are way too short, way too quick and nothing is ever explained enough. Every story left me wondering what the hell just happened.

Some were better then others. The first wasn't bad and was a good one to start off. The second was boring. The third was interesting enough that i would've liked to see it as a full length movie. The fourth was weird and didn't make sense and the fifth was easily the best.

The story of the guys finding the v/h/s tapes ends really abruptly and like the other stories isn't explained enough.

But i enjoyed it. It's just not as great as some people are making it out to be. I can see some people liking it, other's hating it but no one loving it.
Pretty much agree with you but I have a mixed bag feelings about it. Surely it had quite a potential as a well treated found footage flick, particularly Tape 56, the main arc or central story had a [REC.] like flavor most of the part but sadly ended in a bit typical, unclear & unsatisfying way. Yeah...the 1st story was nothing spectacular but found it okay. 2nd one was really boring as well as disappointing considering it made by promising, new genre film maker Ti West. 3rd one...Tuesday the 17th had a common premise of a slasher but the "killer's" issue with the way of appearing in front of the camera kinda annoyed me.
And totally agree with about the 4th one...I didn't get it all! I really thought & wanted to like it as there are some fine creepy moments but that really freaking weird finale didn't make any sense to me. And yeah...last one was the best in the bunch, pretty entertaining.

So for the merits, flaws & surprise elements part, I won't like to give it a good recommendation but definitely it's worth a watch for the genre fans.

I agree. Never thought of it as "found footage". How do you figure?

I didn't think Session 9 was found footage either. I fell asleep on it. Maybe I was tired that day. That cancelled found footage/live action TV show was pretty good. It was called "The River" I believe.

Well. Technically there IS found footage in the movie (e.g. they DID find the interview tapes). ;)

Juan of the Dead (2011)

A resounding MEH from both the boyfriend and I. Pretty average zombedy. Interesting that it incorporated Cuba politics, and I appreciate the zombie vs. shark nod, but nothing else really stood out to me. I tuned out about halfway through.

2.5/5

Watched this myself a while back, forgot I'd even seen it....I thought there were maybe two amusing scenes in the whole film, the rest of the movie was suprisingly boring.

Glad to hear someone agrees with us - I was wondering about all of the positive reviews.
