Rogue (2007). This was simply a solid Aussie entry into the creature feature genre. The cinematography took full advantage of the stunning and vast beauty of the Northern Territory. With much ardor the crew earned their keep both on the sets and in the actual wilds, doing one in-water scene with reports of a 3 meter croc in the area, later confirm to be true. The acting was solid and believable, with extra tension from authentic fear helping to color their performances. The direction was more than solid; this guy knows how to shoot a beautiful picture. The cinematography, with the cinematographer given artistic license to shoot his wares, was impressive. The animatronics and CGI were also well done, with lots of actual motion study of real life critters and even water. The string score was used with genius, making for either a lilting lure of the splendor of the territory or adroitly creating an audible feel for the presence of our creepy creature. All things considered, this was a simple and effective horror story with a freak of nature as our anti-hero. Merci beaucoup.

A pretty lame story, bad acting, it didn't leave itself with anywhere to go at all. Hopefully Hatchet 2 won't be this dissapointing.

4/10

Driller Killer (1979). Some of Abel Ferrara's earliest work, this is not to be dismissed by fans of his later and admittedly better work. DK serves as the director's budding work, an unsophisticated rose that unfolds in pathological squalor. Unfairly relegated to the status of "video nasty," DK is more of a punk rock degeneration of the mind amongst the pains of artistic capacity left unexpressed if not squashed in a repressive New York City. Abel plays the lead role, chunky but still enjoyable, and his acting cohorts lend competent support to his rather quirky role. The music and audio is punk rock rugged, a flick meant to be played loud to increase the inner animosity of the viewer. Where the movie itself falls short, its portrayal as an artistic expression of a squalid era makes up for this shortcoming. Not for everyone, DK is still mandatory for those calling themselves fans of the darker movie genres. Merci beaucoup.

The Tournament

I was expecting a brainless actioner, and a brainless actioner I got, that was no bad thing though.I wanted an undemanding hour and half of people being punched, kicked, shot, stabbed, throttled and blown up.The film obliged and I was entertained.7/10

Demons 2

It's been years since I watched this and while it's not on a par with the first it's still fun, albeit in a bady dubbed, campy kind of way. 6/10

Blindness

What would happen if a segment of the population started going blind, for no apparent reason? Avery interesting and well told story. Deals with the situation on the human level, much in the same way that one movie about infected people trapped in a sealed house does (help me out here, Chrono...).

Hedges its bets a bit by having one person remain sighted, and has a somewhat facile ending- still, the journey is worth the time. Recommended.
