I think The House of the Devil is highly overrated online. Aside from the nice cinematography and Tom Noonan, it was an amateur movie.

Actually, the pedophilia was never implied in Nightmare on Elm Street. The whole point was that he was just a child murderer (hence the claws) and if anything, it would only be implied, because saying it out right kills the atmosphere that Freddy creates.
Now as far as your opinion on American horror, I would strongly disagree with you. If you dig below the surface, there are some real gems that stand out in the movie world, American horror isn't just the jump filled teen killing conglomerate that it seems to be painted as now-a-days. Many independent films are trying to break the mold and bring something new to the horror world, but unfortunately they are constantly looked over, because of the gigantic "remake" movement thats going on right now.
