Adam Resurrected (2008)

The story of Adam Stein (Jeff Goldblum), a Jewish comedian of genius in prewar Berlin, who is unable to save his family when the Nazi genocide overtakes them and only survives a concentration camp himself by becoming the 'literal pet' of the camp’s commandant (Willem Dafoe). These harrowing memories torment Adam in 1961, when he is the star patient at a special mental hospital built for Holocaust survivors in the Israeli desert.

It's not dared to be Cuckoo's nest but still bit surprised to see all the mixed reviews about the film. Where I think it's quite touching & moving instead. And Goldblum delivers one of his finest role for sure..what a blazing performance! At least give it a watch for him.

The make up was great( I think it stands up today) the environment of Midian was so good & creepy and the story was good but more geared for adults than the average horror film. Watching the movie 20 years later, I was suprised how much I missed by not understanding just a few things...Anyhoo props to Barker, trifecta king of horror art/film/writing!

One of my favorite movies of all time. I believe it did the book great justice. The feel of the movie is dead on. Fun fact you don't care about: I had no idea they made a movie of this and it just so happened the day I finished the book I was flipping around late night TV later on and this movie started on TBS or something. And started looking very familiar.

On topic, I currently have Ghoulies II in the player right now.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto

I liked it, but I was expecting a little more. The humor was sometimes a little TOO juvenile and the story wasn't all that great but I liked some of the characters and loved the little musical interludes. So, while I was a little disappointed (and disinterested for a brief second here and there) I still enjoyed it.

The Battle of Algiers (1965). This fantastic flick, shot documentary style, felt less a movie and more like an actual history as to what happened. The differing black and white scenes, some clean and some wickedly grainy, worked wonderfully to demonstrate each scene's power and influence. There is no character development, just the start of a war for independence and freedom from colonialism. Apparently it was unbiased in its portrayal of atrocities committed on each side.

Laid to Rest (2008). For those looking for complicated premises, profound stories, and twists galore, this will probably be a disappiontment. If unabashed gore and brutality, decent acting, and some eye candy is what ya had in mind, then this flick is the perfect choice. Laid to Rest is a wickedly simple story of a monster's inability to end his campaign of atrocious bloodletting. And the occassional techno deathmetal score was apropos, especially during the split second torture-fest in the intro credits. Ashe.

Step aside, Shaun of the Dead...I think you have some serious competition now.

That good, is it?

Juno

Good film but not too sure what the fuss was about, enjoyable but nothing overly special.
