Urgeok's Recomendations 2 - Possession (1981)

This one is a mixed bag. I'll get flamed by 1/2 the people who may have seen or will see this film because it's extremely over the top.
You'll either hate it or love it .. there's no in between.

It stars Sam Neil who's a kind of corporate spy who comes back from an assignement to find his wife (Isabelle Adjani) on the verge of leaving him. He suspects she has a lover ... And he's right - (and then some) - and sets out trying to get his family back together.

Its a French/German coproduction but it has the feel of an italian surrealist horror film.
For one thing .. the people are acting their brains out .. way over the top. No emotion is anything but uber-amplified ...
This will turn off 80 - 90% of the viewers - i guarentee it.
There is one actor - Heinz Bennent - who has to be seen to be believed ... funny as hell .. strange as anything.

The horror elements are a long time coming so you have to have patience .. its a long build up - you have to deal with a lot of emotional relationship ending drama at the beginning and you'll wonder if its a horror film at all.

Then it starts getting creepier and creepier .. to a very unsettling climax.

I'll be frank - it's an art-house horror. Dont even think about looking for it unless you can deal with that kind of thing.
Its pretentious, tiring, overblown ... but it has something that hooked me.

There is a chopped down 80 minute version of this. I finally found and watched the full 127 minute version. If you're still interested .. try to find the full version.
