My Annual November Movie Marathon
Some of you know about this from last year, some don't.
So yes, November 1 comes yet again. And its the time I start my monthly movies extravaganza. This year I have decided to get myself totally entertained. No heavy-duty stuff, no Jodorowsky or Aronofsky kinda flicks, just pure, sheer, cheesy entertainment. I have lined up a bunch of creature flicks to tee off.
I ll pick some more later. It will be like 3-4 movies every evening, through into the night. And I need more recommendations! Remember, it should be fun, mindless entertainment. Cheesy is good, I would love cheese. But no thinking or critical analysis stuff ok? Movies which would rate around 7, 6 even 5 - are all good. Heck throw in some 4s too, just as long as they arent TOO bad. I know Jenna and Rayne would have a rollickingly good time recommending stuff to me in this thread. :)

Piranha, thats a good one.
Meh I dunno if I can stand Shrooms or Black Sheep. Need some elaboration first. What about a flick called A Sound of Thunder? Written by Ray Bradbury...have heard really mixed stuff about it so far. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318081/ Another one which I forgot was Q: The Winged Serpent. I remember Urge recommending it to me, so it goes into my Nov Film Festival lineup. Between Leviathan and Deep Star Six, which one would you recommend? Or are they both good enuff for a spin? Also, any other flicks like Dog Soldiers out there? I really loved that one, and any similar flick, even average, would be good by me. :) And what about these low-budget bad ones - Boa, Boa vs Python, King Cobra, Komodo, etc.?

As far as bad, low budget creature flicks go, why not consider:

DO NOT go for A Sound of Thunder!
That one isn't even entertaining...it's just bad. Especially if you're familiar with the original story - when I saw it, I'd never read the story and HATED the movie. Then I read it a few months later, and hated the movie that much more. Blechh. That said, you've got a fun looking lineup and a great plan for the month. I adore this kind of flick, so you can bet I'll be giving a plethora of suggestions as soon as I get home :) Ps - I'll second Q: The winged Serpent. I also checked it out on Urge's recommendation, and it was an absolute blast. Everything a horror movie should be; I really need to find a copy of my own...

I really liked Komodo! What about King Kong (70's), Sasquatch, Critters, Gremlins, Bats, Alien, and the eel in The Deep? I know Sasquatch and Critters were low-budget films. The creatures in The Descent? They? Pumpkinhead? Puppetmaster?
I'll try to think of more. Edited to add: The rats in Willard and Man's Best Friend Last edited by Nella; 10-31-2008 at 06:34 AM. Reason: Clarification... |
