Trick 'r Treat
Holy crap!!! I caught this last night at the opening night of Screamfest at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood and it was awesome! It captures the unbridled joy of Halloween with good scares, really good laughs, great stories and absolutely amazing art direction. The film drips with Halloweenie goodness. Sam is a new Halloween icon. This film should be viewed every year - too bad it will never be released properly - just because a few kids die... all right a LOT of kids die, but that's what makes it fun. If the kids were teens, the impact would be diluted and made to feel tired and lame. It's screening in NYC next week. Anyone in the area needs to find thier way to the theater to see this piece of awesomeness. 9/10

Final Destination 2
I'm torn on this movie...the first one had one of the best scripts that I've ever seen for a slasher movie, and on that front this was a HUGE letdown. The plot was full of holes, the characters were boring and the whole things just seemed like a last minute excuse to tie together a bunch of set pieces. BUT - holy crap, what AWESOME set pieces they were! This movie had some of the coolest, most original kills that I've ever seen - and the pile-up scene was just a masterpiece of controlled chaos. So I guess it just depends what kind of mood you're in...I really enjoyed it, but had I been looking for something "good" I would have been sorely let down.
