sexy beast (2000)

i've always really loved this movie, and have found it is often overlooked. everything is just really solid. plus, don logan (ben kingsley) is an absolute madman. complete psychopath. such an extremely entertaining character.

does anyone else like this movie?

Absolutely loved it.

Not as much for the story as for all the colorful characters and perormances.

Actually... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0203119/usercomments-233

Ben Kingsley Should've got the Oscar for that performance..

The Strangers

Hmmm. Ok. It was very good. I mean very. It was suspenseful, and not too incredibly hollywood. The beginning make me doubtful because of the "This is all true, believe this story and be scared" opening, but it turned out to be really suspenseful. It has a great combo of suspense and scares, but the thing is... The ending blows. I mean really blows. It's actually a great horror ending but it still pisses me off. Overall- 7/10. With a different ending- 8.5/10

I'll spoil it below so be warned:

Spoilers! (Really huge spoiler)

The couple both get stabbed to death, and its so stupid because by the end, you actually want these guys to live. They weren't ignorant and the choices for survival that they made were intelligent for the most part. Two kids walk in the house later and the last reel is the woman waking up screaming, and you don't know whether she lived or died. The thing that makes me mad about it is the fact that the killers stalk them playfully yet violently ALL fuckin night and then in the end they just tie them up and stab them. It's like... They were terrifying and played cat and mouse really well, then they turned around and stabbed them while they couldn't defend themselves. The killers lost the fight in my mind because they put on such a great and theatrical show, only to blow it themselves in the end.

Diary of the Dead - 5/10
I hate to say it....but Romero is slippin'. It was a good idea...but it's too bland. All the blood and gore was CGI. What happened to blood bags and pigs guts?

Rambo - 6/10
It was alright. Same story with ole John. All the violence was killer though.

Had a quiet night at work last night so got to watch a few films:

House of 1000 Corpses

I have seen it once before. An OK film as an homage to American horrors of the 70's. Not one of my favourites but I enjoyed it more the second time around.

Island of Death

Not as shocking as I was hoping. But a reasonable study of a couple who set out to rid an isolated island of depravity, but being just as depraved as the inhabitants they wish to destroy.

Night of the Demon (1980)

The one about a bigfoot creature (not the earlier classic B&W film). Quite gory, but looks pretty fake. Personally, I found it a bit tedious.
