Fall of the House of Usher (1928)

The French silent films of the late twenties have such a wonderfully romantic and surreal feel to them So very different from the expressionism of the Germans or the realism of the Americans and this Jean Epstein classic is one of the very best. An odd interpretation of the Poe story, this film is a marvel of mood and acting. The camera swirls and moves with and all around the actors. Superimposed images and brilliantly soft cinematography blend to create a slow-motion dreamworld. I cannot recommend this one highly enough to fans of silent film. Easily one of my favorites in the genre.

9/10

"Frankenstein" (1931)

along with Lugosi's "Dracula" and Chaney jr"s "The Wolf Man" this film is the very definition of the term classic horror. A must see.

The Bad Seed (1956). Little gothic horror film based on a stageplay about a little girl suspected to be... Evil...

Fantastic writing and acting. Definitely creepy and a must-see.

I too like Lon Chaney, Senior.

Many of his films are on DVD and many come on TCM where I can record them

Recently I have watched Chaney, Sr, films:

The Penalty
He Who Gets Slapped
The Unholy Three
Phantom Of The Opera
Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Just finished watching "The Devil Doll" with Lionel Barrymore...For some reason shrinking people in a movie gives me the creeps..."The Incredible Shrinking Man" really disturbs me...It makes one feel , that if you were to become very small you would be insignificant, and at the mercy of others...Think,that's what the audience is meant to feel..

"Bride Of Frankenstein"

One of the greats (if not the greatest) of the Universal Horror classics.
