The Monster Squad. It was way too short!

Within the next few days I plan on watching the following. I've written what I'm expecting from each beside the title.

300: I'm expecting a movie that looks stunning, and has amazing action sequences. Nothing else. I'm going to go out and say the plot will be barebones, and the dailogue atrocious.

The Fountain: I expect this to be an amazing movie, but one which is difficult to get through in one sitting. The premise sounds intriguing, and the talent is extraordinary... but it doesn't seem like something I'd find interesting. The medieval parts expecially.

Pizza: Not sure. It's indie and I heard it was bad, but somehow... I think I'll like it. I just hope it's shorter and doesn't spam past 1h 40m.

Choker: It's done to look like a Grindhouse flick, and it is a Grindhouse flick. Looks low-budget talent-wise, but not film-wise. Doesn't suffer from overly shakey DV, or maybe that's hidden by the film grain and flicker.

The Tripper: Looks really fun, with political backdrops.

Blades of Glory: A colourful, weird, witty, stupid-funny (that doesn't rely on toilet humour) flick. I'm hoping for a few laughs.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: I'm worried that since I've seen the 58932 sequels that this will bore the pants off of me, because I will be so tired of the same old plotline used time and time again.

Hot Fuzz

This was a fun ride, although not as fun as Shaun of the Dead, so in that respect I was a bit disappointed. There's good action and good laughs, but it seemed to be a little slow moving for spurts here and there during the first half of the film. All in all, it's a fun movie.... It just didn't quite live up to the lofty bar set by Shaun of the Dead.

B+

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes! This was a breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed this film from start to finish. It could have used a little more gore, but I can overlook the lack thereof because of the film's unique variation on a slasher film. Overall this was a delight. Dark, funny, cool... Just an all-around really fun movie to watch. I recommend it to slasher fans tired of the same old slasher films and wanting something a little diffferent.

Nightmare

Again, another movie that made no sense to me. It has horrible dubbing, poor scripting and a grudge-ish rip off kind of feel.

2/10

And....

The Gravedancers

This, to my surprise, was actually pretty good. Out of the three After Dark Horrorfest films I have seen, this was the best.

8/10

300 - Better than I had assumed. The dialogue was a weak point; feeling too modern and out-of-context in places. As a whole it was overly corny, but that worked in it's favour - generating muliple one-linears, and some segments even managed to be inspirational (and metaphorical.) Visually... it was stunning, although in the action scenes the slow-mo CGI blood looked overly unrealistic and didn't even work in the already stylistic setting. I didn't care for the homophobic nature of it either, expecially since they went out of their way for it (Changing the Spartans stance on same-sex relations for a lousy insult was in bad form.)

Overall...

Million Dollar Baby: Great acting, great story. could not go wrong with this one. I am a bit tired of the fatc that the truly great actin gmovies all seem to have this kind of ending, but that seems to be the breaks.

Half Way through SLither, love it so far :)

Marathon Man: Good acting, interesting story, boring over all though. Just took too long.

I didnt think it was homophobic, (i assume you are referring to the comment about athenians being "boylovers"). I dont think you can say in one sentance that the dialogue was too modern and then complain about a very old-school way of looking at homosexuality in the same movie. It cant be authentic but progressive. Just my 2 cents.
