but why? why? did he use Gimme Shelter again? Goodfellas, Casino and now this... really weak choice
As a sidenote, Gimme Shelter is my favorite song of all time. I never get sick of it.

But I actually understand why Scorsese used it again...it's his mob movie trademark. He uses trademarks often; he goes through actor phases, and uses Rolling Stones music, most often Gimme Shelter, frequently.

It was kind of a "Heee's baaaaaaack" thing...we hadn't seen a solid Scorsese mob movie since 1996.

I'd say watch IA first. It was a great film and I enjoyed it very much. The Departed is also a great film, has amazing acting in it and since it is an American film you might enjoy it better but I think both films are great.

I just saw Infernal Affairs and loved it. I have not seen The Departed yet but plan to buy it soon. I love Scorsese so I figure I probably can't go wrong with it even though I don't really care for DiCraprio and can't figure out why Scorsese would use him again.

Like him or not, you gotta admit, he gets the job done.

Actually, I think he gets a bad rap for no reason. He's really matured as an actor...his roles in The Departed and Blood Diamond this year were both phenominal.

Im not asking for which you think is the better movie (though feel free to include your opinion), just which one I should watch first. Im mostly looking forward to The Departed - how would I enjoy it the most? By watching it before or after the original?

Im thinking before, but just wanted to hear some opinions.
bit late with this reply...... goes really without saying, watch the IA trilogy first. :)

I finally got around to seeing The Departed. I was not impressed. In fact, I was extremely disappointed. For a movie directed by my favorite director and with one of my favorite actors (Nicholson), I found it surprisingly weak. Infernal Affairs was better.

Did I give The Departed a fair chance? Actually, I don't think I have ever wanted to like a movie more than I wanted to like this one. Yes, I can't stand DiCapprio. I thought he was terrible in this and in Blood Diamond as well. But I can't honestly say that The Departed would have been much better had his role been played by someone else (Blood Diamond would have been better with a suitable male lead).

At any rate, I am glad I didn't follow the barrage of blind buy advice on this one.
