im finally directing a movie. me and a bunch of my buds have came up with an idea ealier today on making a horror movie. We already have the supplies and the cast has almost been worked out. theres no script really, im just winging it, but im aiming for a serial killer movie, mostly inspired by Maniac. guy sits in his room and talk to him self, then goes out and kills people. im gonna try for a little but of character development with the killer. wish me luck:)

WRITE A SCRIPT!!!!!!
You need this in order to create a shotlist. Without a shotlist, you have no idea what you're doing and the film will be a trainwreck. Trust me on this one, I've done a TON of zero budget films with friends. Please don't wing it, please. The script doesn't have to be great or even good, but you need a blueprint if you're going to make anything worth watching. Planning is paramount to making a film - a little planning can make anything better. Oh, and have a blast - look forward to seeing the movie.

thanks for the advice, ill try and write a script, but the films barely gonna have any diologue. its pretty much an experimental film to see what we are capable of. the pinnical of this movie is gonna be the gory deaths, i have a bunch of great ideas on how to shoot them

Good luck and congrats!
It's true what Roderick says. A script will help your production stay on track. If your film is "experimental," there is plenty of room for improvisation if the script is simple and loose. It needn't be the most detailed thing in the world, and even the simplest script will help you a lot.

thanks guys. the script is in progress. its not just a script for diologue, but for how its being shot. heres what i got wrote so far.
INTRO Empty desk against wall, killer sitting on chair, dim lighting Camera zoom on back of killer. Killer sitting emotionless. Camera cuts to scene of killer dragging body to lake, then back to the killer’s back. Repeat process. Body dump in the lake, then close up of blood dripping off killers hand onto the floor, then close up of killers face (dim lighting) Title displayed across scene, followed by several credits Killer gets up, opens closet, puts on jacket, grabs baseball bat from closet, then walks out door |
