Observations after a night of "celebrating:"
well the big celebration of being a year closer to the "big dirt nap" took place last night (and this morning) - after drinking heavily at my apartment (and watching the horribly addictive Dateline On-Line Predators getting caught and humiliated) me and four friends rolled into downtown. After several more hours of drinking and various activities we ended up at someone's house for after-hours. I (vaguely) recall being put into a cab and am thankful i remembered my address and how to unlock the door. I woke periodically in the morning but was finally roused by hunger at about 11:30 - I am now eating a roast beef sandwich, drinking my coffee (mmmm, filmmaker2 - coffeeeee) and reflecting on the night: 1)Never yell across a bar to the bartender to "PUT SOME ALCOHOL IN IT THIS TIME" - because they WILL 2) At some point in any drunken evening I always find myself as the "left out" person in the group conversation - usually its 2 or 3 people to my right having a conversation and 2 or 3 people on my left having a conversation and me in the middle - staring at the table and trying to muster the energy/interest to get into either conversation but - generally - just wallowing in existential angst and loneliness. 3) Strip clubs, and let's be honest here folks, are sad and depressing places that reek of desperation and exploitation. I lasted about 20 minutes before begging hunger as an excuse to get out because, observation 3A) you can't ever admit this to your male friends (even though they probably feel the same way). 4) Generally speaking, cab drivers are very understanding (as long as you DON'T puke in their cars. 5) Warm blankets are even more wonderful when one is hungover. . . speaking of which, i'm going back to bed.
