Student Bodies....

Anyone watch this thing last night or have seen it around. I always put it off because I generally detest this kind of comedy (if you're expecting the joke, then it's not funny--just like a good scare) and Allan Smithee is listed as the producer, but last night I finally gave it a watch. The first scene takes place on Jamie Lee Curtis' B-day, so you kinda know what to expect.

What's really amazing is that the movie came out in '81 and slasher motifs were already so well established back then that this movie had no trouble parodying them all. The jokes in the Scary Movie series were at least twenty yrs stale!!!!!

It also demonstrated why the traditional slasher must be put to rest. If subjective camera-work, heavy breathing, gloved hands slecting a murder weapon, necking teens, etc had already been done to the point of parody in '81, then what's the point anymore. (I'm not talking about hybrids like FvJ , serious horror films like the TCM remake, or clever takes on the genre like Cherry Falls and the first Scream movie--but it IS time to lay to rest such walking cadavers as Valentine and I (Still) Know What You Did Last Summer. If you want a traditional slasher, then kick Halloween into the DVD player. It ain't gonna get no better, no matter how many time you imitate it!!!!

The best snippet of dialogue from Student Bodies:

Mother: "That movie was horrible. I can't see why kids watch crap like horror movies."

Father: "Me, either. Hurry up and open the door, we're about to miss The Dukes of Hazzard!"

Student Bodies was on last night??!! Damn, I missed it.

Actually, I haven't seen this movie since I was kid. I only remember "The Breather." Can't remember how good, or bad, it was.

Ah, Avenger...it was a great night for movie-watching. Rolling Thunder, then Student Bodies a few hours later. And you managed to catch Mater of the Flying Guilotine. I think Ritualistic said she even saw The Alligator People. More than one VCR can handle!!!!

I remember how funny this movie was, I cant remember who always got put in trash bags the guys or the girls. I remember the someone getting killed with an eggplant. ANd the guy going up the stairs breathing his ass off and then saying something like, "so many stairs oh God I stepped in gum" and there was gum all over the bottom of his shoes. Sorry I missed it.
