The story is a little more believable than the remake also, plus it's a lot more gorrier. About the only similarities you will see is a guy in a ski mask and he kills with tools, and it happens at an apartment complex. Other than that, a lot different, but both are good, I do prefer the original a little more, but I def. liked the remake also.

tool box murders eh?
i found this, a good piece of work, (obviously not mine) but roughly based on the film. it kicks ass Tool Box Murderer Sitting in a dark room all alone He listens to the sounds of violent hate rock Over his face, covered with a ski mask Out to the garage digging through his toolbox Searching for a tool to commit hate murder Making the headlines with another racial death Tool Box Murders, Weapons to cut non white flesh He cleans his hands after mutilating a queer The body is stabbed until looking like ground beef He throws the remains in the shed to add to his collection Mental instability pushed by racial hatred Claw hammer, hacksaw, chainsaw, monkey wrench Instruments of cruel exterminations Roaming through the park late at night He finds a racially mixed couple As they fuck on the park bench He gets a knife from the toolbox He stabs the nigger in the eye Grabs the white bitch and bites her throat Tool Box Murders, Weapons to cut non white flesh |

still not back to form for Tobe Hooper
Toolbox Remake was average at best and sadly its quite clear that we are still waiting for Tobe Hooper to hit form again though its been two decades since his last really good film and its becoming increasingly doubtful if he will ever regain his lost touch at all. How sad that he, John Carpenter and Brian De Palma have lost their touch so horribly as they were the architects of some of the finest moments of horror during the 70's and early 80's.

Just seen it as it has took a long time to be released in the UK and then it has gone straight to video.Did it flop in the US or something being as it did not appear at UK cinemas?
Anyway after a promising first 10 minutes I thought the film lost it's impact and became rather dull. Then the final half hour became a real tour de force but unfortunately the ending was a bit of a whimper after such a great build up.Plus the way it has been left open for a sequel is just pure Halloween 1 and 2 rip off. Also I think the title should have been totally different as it is not relevant at all. Most of the killing is done with tools that would not fit in a tool box,it is not a remake of the 1970's movie and basically the story deserves a better title, something to associate with the supernatural element of the slasher and the apartment block. All in all not the classic Tobe Hooper movie that I had been led to believe by various sources but worth seeing. |
