I only had one movie scare me and that was when I was 5 or 6 years old and that was Frankenstein. Unfortunately, after my Mom explained the whole make-up and mask thing to me, I haven't been able to find a movie that scared me in the least. I honestly wish I could. I saw The Exorcist when it was originally released at the age of (thinking, thinking) 10 and it didn't scare me then, although it scared the living shit out of my Mom and my friends that went with me.
IMO, the movies that had the biggest/greatest impact on audiences when ORIGINALLY released, would be The Exorcist (Still listed as the scariest horror movie of all time) and Jaws. The Exorcist had one hell of an impact on audiences the globe over. People that never jumped at horror films were scared shitless by this movie... running out of theaters, puking, freaking out in the theaters, etc... Also, when Jaws was released, and while not a full blown horror movie, turned thousands of beach combers and swimmers into chickenshits that wouldn't go into the ocean for a million bucks! I know several people that wouldn't go into a swimming pool at night or even go near a pond because of the mind-fuck the movie gave them.
