Woman Charged In Christmas Eve Stabbing


Alabama - A Daleville woman has been charged with murder in the Christmas Eve stabbing death of an acquintance at a Wicksburg residence.

Angela Turner, 26, of Daleville, made her first appearance in court Monday before District Judge John Steensland. She is charged with fatally stabbing 18-year-old Antoinette Marie Jobson following a verbal altercation at a residence on State Highway123 in Wicksburg.

The Houston County Sheriff's Department lists Jobson as being from Holmes County, Fla., but the Houston County Coroner's office gives her address as Palmetto, Fla. According to Sheriff Lamar Glover, the two women went to the home of Rockwell McLin, an acquaintance of Turner, near the K&N Peanut Company on Christmas Eve.

They began to argue less than five minutes after they arrived. During the course of the argument Turner reached up on the wall and grabbed a 10-inch double edged knife from a collection of knives hanging on the wall inside the one-room home and stabbed Jobson once in the chest, according to Glover. "It was a big knife," Glover said.

The owner of the home called 911 and paramedics arrived at the scene at about 5:38 p.m. Jobson was alert and talking when paramedics reached the home but lost consciousness and died on the way to Flowers Hospital. "She had lost a lot of blood at the scene," Glover said.

"They were not able to revive her when they got her to the hospital." Investigators haven't been able to determine what the two women were arguing about but believe alcohol may have been a factor. Glover said the two women had been friends for about a month and a half and were acquaintances from the psychiatric ward at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Turner sat with her head bowed and her hands clasped together in the courtroom Monday, visibly shaken. She wept as Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska showed Steensland pictures of the knife and crime scene.

Jobson pleaded with Steensland to set bail so she could get treatment at a behavioral unit where she had been previously treated. Valeska opposed bond due to the nature of the crime and said Turner had prior alias warrants for various traffic offenses in Houston and Dale counties, including a December DUI.

The entire incident could have been avoided, he said. "If she wanted treatment she should have been seeking treatment before she took the victim's life," Valeska said. "We had been making every attempt to get her picked up. We weren't able to do so before the murder took place. The victim might have been alive today."

Valeska said Turner represented a danger to herself and others. "We have very strong evidence," Valeska said. " She alleged she was fencing with the victim. Other witnesses said no, she had an argument. She stabbed the victim in the chest.

It went deep into the chest, struck the aorta and the back part of her spine. After the stabbing she ran out of the residence and they had to go bring her back." The victim's mother and brother were present during the hearing.

"They're distraught," Valeska said. "They're devastated over the loss of their daughter and were worried Jobson would get out." Turner is being held at the Houston County jail without bond.
