Vampenguin...not trying to make myself look TOO much like a comics geek here, but Harry Osbourne DID become the green goblin, and not the Hobgoblin, although there's talk that if Harry DOES become a villain in the films, for some unexplained reason, they may make HIM the hobgoblin...

This is an online bio I found for the "harry" GG...

"Harry Osborn was the college roommate of Peter Parker. He worshipped his domineering father, and tried to live up to what he thought his father's exceptions were. The pressure got to him, however, and he began taking drugs. It was a long, slow road to recovery, replete with backslides. It was during such a period that Harry witnessed the battle between his father, the original Green Goblin, and Spider-Man, that resulted in his father's death. The shock started to drive Harry towards insanity.
After discovering Spider-Man's costume in Peter Parker's room, Harry assumed the identity of the Green Goblin and tried to do in his roommate. Peter defeated Harry. The arriving authorities refused to believe either that Peter was Spider- Man, or that Harry himself was the Green Goblin. They handed Harry over to a psychiatrist, Dr. Barton Hamilton, who successfully treated Harry's insanity but who also learned everything Harry knew about the Green Goblin. Dr. Hamilton eventually went on to become the third Green Goblin -- but that's another story.

Just like his father, Harry suffered from a sort of selective amnesia and often didn't remember either his father's other life or Spider-Man's secret identity. This amnesia began to erode when the original Hobgoblin offered him proof that Norman Osborn was his father. Harry tried to use some of his father's weapons on the original Hobgoblin, with dismal results.

Harry stayed away from super-powered types for a while. During the Inferno crisis, he became the Green Goblin again and battled the second Hobgoblin. He thought about becoming a super-hero, but was forcefully dissuaded by Spider-Man.

Harry began to imagine his father's spirit, goading him to revenge. He obtained and used a modified version of the original Green Goblin's strength formula . He taunted Peter and Peter's wife, Mary Jane, with his knowledge of Peter's secret identity. He openly jetted about in his Goblin attire, even publicly confronting J. Jonah Jameson. His determination to extract vengeance caused him to try and blow up the Osborn Foundation with himself and Spider-Man inside. However, the presence of Mary Jane and his son, Norman, shocked him into a semblance of sanity. He got everyone out safely before collapsing. He died shortly thereafter, apparently from an unexpected side-effect of the Green Goblin formula."


Hobgoblin has had a few different incarnations, here's the deal with each of them:

The first one:

"For many years, the original Hobgoblin was believed to have been Ned Leeds, who died in East Germany. The story which identified Ned as the Hobgoblin was written after the departure of the character's creator, Roger Stern. After more than a decade, Stern finally had the chance to reveal the truth. The Hobgoblin was none other than Roderick Kingsley, one of the hot suspects for the role at the time of the original stories.
A fashion designer who used questionable and ruthless business practices, Roderick developed a financial empire that reached far beyond the fashion industry. Unsatisfied with conventional methods of doing business, Roderick searched for and found the original Goblin formula. After modifying the formula in a manner that he hoped would avoid the insanity side effect, he found that it gave him strength nearly equivalent to that of his arch-enemy, Spider-Man."

The Second:

"Arnold "Lefty" Donovan was a petty criminal. He thought he found his big break, when the Hobgoblin approached him to enlist him on his payroll. Hobby had taken a beating from Spidey, and he decided he needed what Osborn (The original Green Goblin) had to stand toe-to-toe with Spidey on a fight. While recovering, he thought that normal robbers should attract less attention than the Goblin, and he didn't want to risk meeting Spidey again.
Donovan acted as the middle man, hiring thugs and commanding the assaults on Osborn facilities. During one of these, in a warehouse near the docks, Spidey crashes in and takes down the small army of criminals. In a truck, the mysterious leader throws some bats and a pumpkin, to slow down our web-slinger. The pumpkin starts a fire, and Peter throws a tracer to the truck, and saves the thugs. He then follows the truck, but the mysterious figure had left in a van that was on the back of the truck. The truck was being driven by a robot, who crashed against a light-post when he saw Spidey. The wall-crawler returned to the docks, where he heard the name of the criminal's leader: "Lefty" Donovan. Later, Donovan arrives to a remote Summer house. He reveals to his boss that the whole outcome went as planned: the thugs were caught, Spidey was left back, and the material was found. The boss is revaled: the Hobgoblin, with bandages around his stomach, who says that the stolen goods will give him the strength of the original Green Goblin."

Third:

"Ned Leeds was one of the earliest characters introduced in Peter's life. He was a field reporter at the Daily Bugle. Peter and Ned fought for Betty Brant's heart, and Ned got the best of it. They eventually got engaged, and Ned was also promoted to city editor for the Bugle. They got married in Amazing Spider-Man #156, and in the beginning it all went well. Unfortunately, things got rougher, though it took a long while for Betty and the readers to know why.
We all remember the classic van battle between Spidey and Hobgoblin (Amazing Spider-Man #249 and following), don't we? Well, while they battled, Ned was following them. He waited until he saw the Hobgoblin leave the river, unmasked. He followed him to his hideout, getting closer and closer, in an attempt to see his face. The Goblin captured him, and brainwashed him with a bio-electric instrument. Kingsley (the Hobgoblin, if you didn't know) started by using Leeds to steal info from the Bugle's files, but he eventually decided that it was safer to have someone in his place in the risky battles. Thus, Hobgoblin 3 was born. Ned Leeds then approached Richard Fisk as a reporter, trying to find out about his father, the Kingpin. Knowing that Richard wasn't too fond of his father, he insisted with him, until one day, Richard and Alfredo decided to move against the Kingpin. Then, Ned revealed to them that he was the Hobgoblin, and helped Richard creating the Rose identity. Of course, Kingsley had his own agenda, which involved taking down the Kingpin, so he was keen on Leeds' moves."

AND the 4th

"When his methods became too extreme for the C.I.A., Macendale set himself up as a criminal-for-hire. As Jack O'Lantern, he tangled with Machine Man, Spider-Man and Silver Sable. Hired to be an enforcer for the Kingpin, Macendale joined the Rose and the original Hobgoblin. He and the Hobgoblin had a major falling out, however, when he refused to help the Hobgoblin chase down Spider-Man. This eventually led to Macendale's hiring the Foreigner to assassinate the Hobgoblin, at which point he took the Hobgoblin's equipment and criminal identity. He soon found he also inherited the Hobgoblin's enemies, Spider-Man and the second Green Goblin, Harry Osborn.
Macendale's obsessive need for power led him to try and make a deal with the demon N'astirh, who had him possessed. He remained in this form for some time before achieving separation from the demonic entity in Web of Spiderman #85. The demonic entity, known as Demogoblin, was killed by Macendale when he got Kraven's formula powers. Having apparently learned nothing from the demon-blending experience, he underwent physical alteration during his tenure with Gaunt, allowing himself to be implanted with cybernetic devices."

I went to see this yesterday and it was very cool. Better than the first, by far. Does anybody remember the old Electric Company Spiderman segment? "SpiderMan Where are you coming from? Spiderman What are you looking at? Spiderman Nobody knows who you be!!" (or something like that). His web was some stiff cartoon that would turn into a net when dropped on the baddie. That was great ... and sorry at the same time.

lol.. i'm just messin... jsut i saw people get flamed for this quite aggressively when i first got here

i guess people don't care when it's something they like... hypocrites :)
