The Mist
Another promising Stephen King adaptation coming to the screens soon...
http://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/im...7000410460.jpg Three-time Oscar-nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) reunites with horror-master Stephen King to write and direct this chilling adaptation of the author’s original short story. Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the "The Arrowhead Project" conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group’s overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see! Is this going to be great or what? I can hardly wait! |
I'm REALLY looking forward to this film. Love the story, and have always thought it could make a great movie. Let's hope they do the story justice.

King adaptations seem to be getting better... first 1408 and now this. I have to admit, I'm anxious to see this one.
|
This looks great. Darabont made a splendid King film in The Shawshank Redemption, and I trust this won't be any less great than that.

I am DYING for this. I started reading the story, but had to return it to the library before i finished it, but it is listed as a major (if not the major) inspiration Mark Laidlaw used to write the plot to Half-Life.

As a person, I really get a kick out of him, he is a human being to aspire to be like. Weird and wealthy :D |
I was wondering when someone was going to make a movie out of that story.

Behind the scenes featurette...check it out for some pretty cool shots...;)

I've got to admit I'm getting excited by the prospect of this film. I haven't been looking forward to something new in a long time. Looks like real 'old school' horror with what look like cool effects.
I just read the USA Today story on this and liked Darabont's take on the film. I guess I sort of hope that this brings a new wave of horror and we get past some of the rapidly-growing-tiresome torture films (not that I hate all those films but its just getting old). The story can be found: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/...ont-mist_N.htm |

Does anyone know Frank Darabont's relationship with Stephen King? This is his third King film I do believe. Is Frank just a fan or are they friends or do they both think they work well together or are those just the jobs that swung his way?

I can safely predict that this will be the next best thing in recent horror.
"...Easily the most 'mist-ifying' horror film of 2007 and one of the best of the decade, the character driven story and relatable themes will no doubt make it a classic to be talked about for years. The Mist is the real deal..." "...The physical effects, courtesy of KNB, showcase the incredible imagination of the crew. Bringing the gore and grue that I only pictured in my head for years to the big screen was a delight..." "...While most people would be quick to jump on the bandwagon like so many others and proclaim that it's similar to The Fog because of percipitous weather conditions, I would be more inclined to say it resembles The Thing, in that there is no break in the tension. In the Fog, we have daylight, in which our heroes can find answers and safety. In The Thing and The Mist, there is no safe ground, every second counts and the terror never takes a break..." "...Going beyond the ending in the novella, Darabont doesn't leave it up in the 'air' so to speak but goes somewhere even the darkest part of my mind wouldn't dream of. And that is something that really makes the film stand out and bring itself full circle. I'm glad, thankful even, that he chose to bring me there and go beyond what would be considered a normal 'Hollywood' ending. King himself praises the new ending, saying "It is the most shocking ending ever and there should be a law passed stating that anybody who reveals the last 5 minutes of this film should be hung from their neck until dead"..." Can you tell that...I CANT WAIT!!:D |

Hmm... carefull now, V. |
I actually just finished the novella The Mist, which was OK. It felt like it was one of his first pieces of writing - The language itself isn't as tight as some of his newer novels or ideas...
I think that the concept is good, but I'm really concerned about the execution... The ads that I've seen make me wary... If any of the CGI is patchy, it'll ruin the film. But yet, I'll definitely be there... |
I will also be there even though my brother kept saying, "I liked this when it was called the Fog." LOL
|
I think this will be pretty good. Most of King's novel's have been well adapted.I read the short story of this along time ago and it was pretty good.I'll go see this if I have time.
