The problem with having older films in your collection this time is, every dvd player I've EVER had has broken down in record time compared to the old, comparatively much sturdier built VHS machines. So...what to play the films on when your old machine breaks, and there's only new machines on sale?
I think backwards compatability will be the selling point for me when looking for an upgraded system. Either that, or provide the technology to duplicate dvds onto whatever the new format is...of course, this would be seen as a piracy nightmare, so I assume you'd have to get this done at someplace liscenced to do so. I would probably agree to pay $5 per "upgraded" disk...guess it'd help sort out which ones you REALLY wanted to keep.
Eh, why am I contemplating this...? It's like whatever happens we're probably going to get screwed over.

That's the business world for you. They don't care what happens to your system, as long as you paid them your hard-earned cash. Like I said, as long as I've got the movie I want, then I'm happy.

I think TV and computers are going to become integrated until they are essentially one and the same. You'll just save your movies onto a hard drive, or to something like those key-sized flash drives.
