There are entire cable stations devoted to sports, comedy, news, and shopping, so why not horror? This is a question fans of scary movies have asked countless times as they vainly search for a frightening flick on a Friday night.
"Why not horror?" is a question entrepreneurs Nick Psaltos and Kim Bangash asked themselves before they set out to create the Horror Channel. They've started out by recruiting genre legends Wes Craven, John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper to the Horror Channel board of directors.
The Horror Channel has already bought up the cable rights to 13 movies by Italian frightmeister Mario Bava. In addition to a lineup of classic and modern horror movies, the channel plans to feature original programming in the form of horror series, mini-series, and feature films by the top directors in the genre.
When will the new network be a reality? If all goes well, the creators plan to debut the Horror Channel on Halloween night 2004. Mark your calendars!
