Though no deal has yet been made, Naomi Watts has been offered the starring role opposite the big ape in Peter Jackson's "King Kong". Though still at work "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" - scheduled to hit theaters this winter - Jackson should begin writing the "Kong" script in October and has already approached Watts for the role of leading lady.
Naomi Watts debuted in "Flirting" with Nicole Kidman, who became one of her best friends. She's starred the U.S. remake of "The Ring" and it's sequel due out next year. Her breakthrough in the States came in David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive". In "King Kong", Watts has been offered the part of American actress Ann Darrow, a role made famous by Fay Wray in the 1933 original and Jessica Lange in a 1976 remake.
Will Jackson's "Kong" be as memorable as the original? With Peter Jackson at the helm, it's hard to imagine the result being anything less than perfect.
