Scroll down to check out the official word on what's going today at the Vampire-Con (and tonight there's the big, sexy fetish-fang ball!) -- and then stay tuned for my take on last night's double feature of 1971's Velvet Vampire (star Celeste Yarnall [1] was in attendance, telling some funny stories about working with costar Michael Blodgett [2] [who was previously in the sublime cinematic clunker, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls]) and Tony's Scott's stylistic 1983 tale of eternal beauty (and damnation), The Hunger.
The world’s first convention devoted to everything vampire has officially teamed up with Dracula author Bram Stoker’s estate. Dracula is arguably one of the most popular characters in fiction, the first vampire horror novel and the inspiration for the current pop-culture phenomenon. For the first time since the film adaptation starring Bela Lugosi in 1931, the Stoker estate has officially sanctioned a soon-to-be-released sequel to the epic novel: Dracula The Undead, written by Bram’s great grand-nephew Dacre Stoker and screenwriter Ian Holt. Both authors will be joining the “Why We Love Vampires: A Brief History of the Undead” panel discussion, scheduled for 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 16th at The Music Box Theatre @ Fonda.
Dracula The Un-Dead is the bone-chilling sequel based on Bram Stoker's own handwritten notes for characters and plot threads excised from the original edition. The story begins in 1912, twenty-five years after Dracula "crumbled into dust." Van Helsing's protégé, Dr. Jack Seward, is now a disgraced morphine addict obsessed with stamping out evil across Europe. Meanwhile, an unknowing Quincey Harker, the grown son of Jonathan and Mina, leaves law school for the London stage, only to stumble upon the troubled production of "Dracula," directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself. Dracula The Un-Dead is deeply researched, rich in character, thrills and scares, and lovingly crafted as both an extension and celebration of one of the most classic popular novels in literature. The novel will be released on October 13, 2009 by Dutton. The book has also spawned a major merchandising and licensing program represented by LICENSEBOX, A Moda Entertainment Company.
Shannon Mulholland of Moda Entertainment states that “We see no limit to the opportunities available by blending our knowledge of client estates with the production and marketing capabilities of our partner Dogma Studios and we will be launching multiple new projects together in the coming year.”
“There is no greater excitement than to support like minded partners, such as Moda Entertainment, Bram Stoker LLC, and Dracula the Undead LLC, who trust Dogma Studios with the creative license to look inside, outside, and beyond current market thought and practices,” said Scott Schlichter, President of Dogma Studios. “In teaming up Moda Entertainment with Vampire-Con, this is indeed a partnership in which each party inspires the other, the ideal foundation for achievement for our respective endeavors.” Visit www.draculatheundead.com [3] for more information.

July 28, 2009, Hollywood, CA – Vampire-Con, the world’s first convention devoted to Vam-pop culture, is now embracing the 18+ at Vampirella’s Ball, a danse macabre event at Henry Fonda Music Box Theater on Sunday, August 16th. And joining the lineup of entertainment with the Lucent Dossier vaudeville circus and DJ Gary Calamar, Grammy-nominated producer, music supervisor for HBO’s TRUE BLOOD and long-time DJ of KCRW (89.9), is the audio alchemist of L.A.’s underground, DJ Xian.
DJ Xian, aka Xian Vox,is the Producer, Promoter and DJ of Los Angeles’ hottest dark underground parties including Malediction Society, Ruin, Wumpskate, Disko.Nekro, and Hex Hollywood. Establishing her presence as early as 1999, Xian (pronounced zigh'ehn) has since become a force to be reckoned within the City of Angels, with her website, LADEAD: Los Angeles Darkside, serving as premiere destination for clubs, events and community. Xian’s aesthetic diversity as a producer and promoter is complimented by stylistic variety as a DJ, with an arsenal pulling from alternative, indie, 80’s, trip hop, downtempo, tribal, world fusion, electro, glitch, goth, darkwave, industrial, avant-garde, steampunk, neoclassical, neonoir, and waltz macabre. Vampire enthusiasts will love that Xian was a resident at The Fang Club and has performed as a headliner for Dracula’s Ball (Philly) and Endless Night (New Orleans), and any fan of vintage, anachronistic and fantasy aesthetics would have enjoyed her sets at the Edwardian Ball and the Labyrinth of Jareth Fantasy Masquerade events earlier this year.
Vampire-Con descends into Hollywood, CA with a two-day Vampire Film Festival on Friday, August 14th and Saturday, August 15th at the New Beverly Cinema and then moves to The Music Box Theatre @ Fonda on Sunday, August 16th for a day of vendors, contests and panel discussions, including “Vampires & Sexuality” and "Inked in Blood: 40 Years of Vampirella.” Vampirella’s Ball will begin at 8:30 pm and feature a special performance by The Lucent Dossier Experience, LA’s premiere underground vaudeville cirque.
