I knew that Lionsgate did an annual SAW Blood Drive with the advent of every film, but I didn't realize that it started with the first one in 2004.
For every pint of blood they collect, the Red Cross estimates that we horror fans are saving 3 lives... It doesn't quite make up for all the kills of Jigsaw, but then again those aren't real (or at least, that we know!).
In 2004, Lionsgate collected 4,200 pints, which means that up to 12,000 lives were saved. In '05 they collected 10,000 pints which equals 30,000 lives saved. In '06 they more than doubled the gore and collected a whopping 23,000 pints, which totals 69,000 lives saved.
The LA Times just did a piece on the Blood Drive [1], and according to them, “nurses are getting a sexy shot in the arm,” due in part to the edgy SAW IV Blood Drive posters created by Lionsgate in support of the upcoming release of SAW IV [2].
