MGM Going Out With A Scare
MGM's last release will be this weeks Amityville Horror remake.
MGM ends its run as a theatrical distributor this weekend with the release of "The Amityville Horror" at 3,323 theaters. The film is co-produced by Dimension.
"It's been a long ride here and it's coming to an end," said Erik Lomis, MGM's distrib prexy, "but hopefully we'll go out on top. I'd like to go out with a bang."
Like the 1979 original, MGM's "Amityville" will go out with an R rating. While most of the recent string of strong-opening horror pics have been rated PG-13, last spring's R-rated "Dawn of the Dead" popped with $26.7 million.
